Swimming pools
Hi our grandchildren arrive on Thursday and we were chatting to our neighbour as to safety issues and the like. he suggests that conventional wisdom is 1m x 1.7m. Those are the dimensions of his pool.
In France where we lived all pools in rental property be they short term or long term lets have to be surrounded by a safety fence. Unfortunately France witnessed some deaths on rental properties and for safety the Govt introduced a new requirement for fencing.
Our pool is 1.4m x 2.1m
I do not suppose there is any standard?
thanks

Re: Swimming pools
My understanding is that (legal) rental properties are required to have the pool fenced off. It's part of the inspection prior to obtaining a licence.

Re: Swimming pools
Thanks perhaps that is for short term rentals? In any event I have not seen a fence around any swimming pool in Javea.
We have a long term rent in place and as the owner is not resident in Spain but elsewhere just wondered the safety implications.
Certainly in France any gite short term rental etc has to by law have a security fence.
thanks once more.

Re: Swimming pools
Any property used for short term rentals in Spain should have a security gate around the pool. It is the law!
If somebody then drowns in the pool then the owners will be liable

I think you'll find that it's for ANY rental property.
By-the-way, why are these pools so small? Ours is 8m x 5m (which is still small) or are you talking about depth? Ours is 1.2m in the shallow end and about 1.7 in the deep end.

Re: Swimming pools
Hi Snikpoh and thanks. Are you suggesting that all the villas here in Spain which are let should have security fencing?
ours as I say is 1.4m x 2.10 in depth. We think the latter is somewhat at odds with conventional 1.7m.
We will have to be absolutely on guard and three of us will be in supervision mode every time they use the pool. Seriously did not realise the depth of our pool and 2.1 does seem excessive. I cannot even stand up in that and I am 1.92
