Strictly Come Dancing travesty

What on earth are the UK public coming to? Keeping John Sergeant in Strictly while other, much better dancers are eliminated. Last night was ridiculous, He just can't dance, the judges gave him a total of 12 points out of 40, and the voting public saved him yet again. He just can't dance, and is far too old for the competition. The public just see him as a 'nice old guy' and vote for him as a sympathy vote. Heather Small isn't very good, but knocks spots off him, and she was in the dance off as was Rachel, and the judges made her joint best dancer. Time the BBC sorted it out so this can't happen in future competitions.

Hear hear! In the early stages when there were other none too brilliant dancers, his presence was a kind of thinking woman's light relief..... but now? Knocking people who can dance out?

Errrm wasn`t the last one the same ?

It`s not a dance competition till the last few, it`s just a show.

Anyway him and his partner are as Brucie says "my favourites"

Actually, as a Strictly nerd, I can tell you it's one week further on now - the (we thought) incomparable Kate Garraway was out last week last year!

Mike, don´t be ageist. Cherie Lunghi isn´t far behind him in years and, although I think she´s got a real ego (she, unlike all the other celebrities, didn´t even look at her partner during the judges comments) she can dance. However, I agree it´s time he went but, you have to admit, he´s so funny and, from the expression on his and his dance partner´s face, they really didn´t expect to be saved.

Maybe next week he´ll be gone and then we can get on with it - but don´t hold your breath. The public love him.;)

Just about to pull up a glass of wine (sorry, chair) to watch Strictly & thought I'd bring the thread to the top to make it easier for everyone to find when John Sargeant is thrown out:thumbsup:/kept in;)/scores 40:eek:

Re: Strictly Come Dancing travesty

He's still at the bottom with the judges, but they were a lot nicer to him, perhaps hoping he wouldn't get the sympathy vote. Hope it works or worked as the results have already been decided and the programme recorded. How on earth do they think we believe it is recorded on separate days, the only thing that happens is that Tess Daly changes her dress.

How earth did you find this out? You have spoilt the result for me as I was looking forward to watching the results tonight. You should have started your comment with a "warning".

Ok, is obviously recorded (Tom Chambers' wedding was the final clincher;))... but come on, HOW?:frown: Same website as DonD? (if so, which page? failed to mind mention of triplicate banker..)

Re: Strictly Come Dancing travesty

I just can't believe that John Sergeant is still in, saved by the viewers once again, so we lose one of the better dances. Cerie Lunghi just didn't deserve to have lost, OK she didn't dance too well in the dance of, but still a million times better than John Sargenat has eve danced.

Re: Strictly Come Dancing travesty

Its just making a mockery of the show now, John should have gone weeks ago he was always one of the worst dancers and it is a dance contest. Feel sorry for the good dancers being voted off as they are obviously putting in a lot of work and many hours of training to get to the standard they have reached. Having myself danced to competition level in the past it is hard work.

Agree with all posts of this view, however two thoughts: JS himself puts it perfectly. Unless they change the voting system, however infuriating, nothing that is happening is actually 'wrong'. And if they changed Tess Daly's script when she's in with the dancers, MAYBE just maybe the public could be persuaded to vote for dancing ability. Have you noticed she says 'if you want to see xxx dance again next week, vote...' and 'to keep your favourites in, vote...' There's a passing chance that if she said 'Who do you think danced best? Vote for the dancing skill they've achieved in such a short time' at least some people would vote differently. (this may help until/if they change the system, anyway)
