Has anyone been following the item about the stolen children in Spain.
A nun is on trial at the moment for stealing new borns from mothers that were deemed unfit or too poor to keep them.
The mothers were told that their babies had died, and this practice went on until the 90s.
The main culprit is now 80, so what ever sentence she gets will probably not be a long one, considering the damage she has caused to thousands of people, and how many lives she has ruined the punishment will never fit the crime.
Up to 300,000 babies were stolen, I wonder if any of my lot are involved in any way.

I have been seeing different snatches of this news on TV for a few years now. Many families have been shown telling their sad stories. The practice of telling people that their babies had died is horrendous. Absolutely terrble.

it would appear to be another incident where the church has taken actions that it knew were unacceptable but carried on with it under the pretext of religion knows best, and that the congregation concerned were better off. Although the money that changed hands stayed within the church.
we don't need dictators when we have such people hiding in our midst.

Blame religion, but not Christianity.
The church in Spain has a lot to answer for in its past & recent present, from the Inquisition, priests abusing children, nuns stealing babies all in the name of Christ.
However, it's too easy simply to shift the blame.
We live without God at our peril.

Alas, this is nothing new, it´s been going on for years, especially rife during the Franco years. The BBC have done programmes on it in the past, I saw this one last year, pretty chilling.

It's a horrifying story and I, sadly, know of a recent example.
A young British woman, living with a Spaniard, had a baby and shortly afterwards the couple were both jailed for drug dealing. The baby was taken from them.
I think the Spaniard is still in prison, but the mother served part of her sentence and was deported back to the UK, and not allowed to re-enter Spain.
Her mother came to Spain to find out about her grandson and the authorities refused to tell her anything. She enlisted the help of my wife who is an interpreter and knows her way around.
The baby in question had been adopted by a childless Spanish couple. The grandmother was allowed one visit to see her grandson for a few minutes in a children's home. She will never be allowed to see him again and doesn't know his new name. She wasn't even allowed to take a photograph of her grandson, but my wife was with her and she's a clever lady.
I suppose, as with the 300,000 other cases, the authorities took the babies from people not considered fit to look after them, and dispassionately, could they have been right?

Not surprised that the baby was taken away from them in the first instance but if this had happened in the UK the baby would have been fostered until proceedings were completed. This would have taken a while and the baby would not have been adopted in such a hasty way, the mother would have been given the opportunity to stop taking drugs and prove that she was able to look after the little one. Also the grandparents would have been approached to see whether they could raise the child themselves. Assessments would have been carried out to ensure that the baby would be raised in a caring and safe environment.

I've been reading these stories in the local press in Huelva province. There's a help website that is made mentioned in several articles: sosbebesrobados.es
It's a terrible situation all around.

When men abuse children, my OH usually says " put them into a room full of the childrens mothers! They won't do it again! " So what happens here?
