Spend a penny save a cent

Usually I pay for fuel with cash and try to fill my car with an exact amount to avoid a pocket full of chage. Many garages have a button which allows you to specify how much you wish to buy, others do not.
Sometimes I am under but occasionally I go a fraction over. I notice in the UK they insist on an extra penny whilst in spain they do not - or at least they do not at my local garage

I'm sure you're in the minority, but if most go under by a penny or two, I bet they expect the change!
And for everyone that overshoots, the cashier has to make up the shortfall. And she/he is probably a lot poorer than you are!

Yeah, if you run off without paying the cahsier has to make up the difference. I have noticed more and more going onto the prepay system. I asked the cashier if this was a general thing, and he said yes, because of those who run off without paying.

I would never evade payment or expect staff to subsidise. Garages here have a jar where most customers will donate loose change. Maybe it's just a local thing?

So, if I fill my car up once a week with 20 or 30 euros and put an extra 2 cents on each time, at the end of the year I will be able to have a coffee for free with my "savings".

It depends on the price of the juice, sometimes it`s hard to stop on the €, it ticks past cos of the pump gearing.
