Default Speeding fine and UK licence

Friend has a UK licence and was driving my car. Got stopped after speeding, it was. A 100km road, he did not notice a 60km sign (if there was one as he passed a fuel station) got pulled over for doing 92km. Paid the fine (300€ discounted to 150€ for paying quick) what happens about the penalty points? Is there any further problems as he was driving my Spanish car?
After that we used the Garmin, noticed at several fuel station part of the road the Garmin said 60kmph but there was no signs saying the reduced speed!
Wouldnt mind if friend was a speedy driver!
So the question is, will anything else happen re points on licence? Can Spanish authorities put points on UK licence?

There is some sort of EU inter-country agreement to award the points across borders. I don't think it operates properly yet and if they have not taken his counterpart licence off him I don't see how they can. The Spanish system works by giving you a plus total to start with then knocks points off for each offence and the score is kept on a computor database. Not the same as UK so I don't think they will manage for some time yet.

According to this, buying and selling of penalty points in Spain still goes on (I thought they had stopped it) if you're close to losing your licence, just get some granny to buy your points.

At the moment, Spanish points go on Spanish license, English points on English, but this is due to change when they introduce a proper EU license (whenever that will be). They time to worry is when they take your license away.

Well I don't get it..........I was done for speeeding about 5 weeks ago in a 60km limit I was doing 82, they charged me €400 with 50 percent off it was €200.

Do they charge what they like?

Yes the road signs here are a joke, example, you will enter a 60km zone, travel some miles and still think you are in that 60km zone then see a sign for the end of 80km zone. You may see an 80km sign and less than 30 feet after an 60, it's a joke

There is a table of limits and points etc here:-

http://www.infocoches.com/informe/ta...dgt-42756.html

Although it says it is the old table and only valid until March this year, that was because the new 100 limit came in then. As that limit has now been scrapped the old table is now the current one.

In the UK, they take your licence off you and enter points. I wouldn't worry about it, all the Spanish want is your money. A more interesting point is are you (your friend) going to tell your insurance company in the UK....

Why tell an insurance company in the UK when my insurance is in Spain where I live?
In Spain my car is insured for any driver over 26 years old. I guess that is why premiums are higher here! My friend has a licence but no car. He is changing his licence to a Spanish one next week.

Depending on how long you have been in Spain, but have you passed the medical recently, all Spanish drivers have to have a medical every 5 years, and if you are on a UK license you should also do the same. You MUST change your UK license for a Spanish one if you are in Spain more than 5 years, and is your UK license still in date, the photo ones have to be renewed regularly, every 10 years, tells you on the license when it is due. All things that could trip you up if stopped in Spain while driving.

It's not!

A UK licence is only valid as long as a Spanish licence would be - based on age.

Now that a Spanish licence is valid for 10 years up to age 65 a UK licence could well be valid for 10 years.

She still needs to be aware that photo licenses have expiry dates, especially if you are not in the UK, and aware that it must be changed before it expires as you can't get a new one sent without a UK address..

Good for you, so many people don't, and I bet there are many more driving with out of date licenses.
