One for the driver and one breathalyser.

Assuming the car is on French plates how did the police trace you ?

European rules not British or French

A single vest for the driver is all the law calls for.

Since January, French law has prohibited drivers from carrying any device capable of detecting speed cameras.

Active detectors have been outlawed for some time.

If you haven't disabled camera alerts you can be fined at the roadside

Regardless of whether it's disabled or not possession of a database is now illegal. TomTom and other manufacturers have adjusted their POI's and now call them 'danger zones' or similar.

The breathalysers cost about £2........note there should be at least two in the car.

The law is very clear, you have to be able to produce ONE unused tester on demand. Only if you intend to use one would you need two.

.....although now I consider the route I use very carefully. Now leaning towards using the non toll roads and traveling through the night.

Why, so you stand a better chance of getting away with speeding ?

Wow line by line analysis.

The law is very clear, you have to be able to produce ONE unused tester on demand. Only if you intend to use one would you need two.

Absolutely Correct - but The Institute Of Advanced Motorists recommend 2...

With a start date for the new measure of 1 July 2012, the rules will apply to anyone travelling to or through France by motor vehicle in the summer holiday season, even just for a day trip. This measure won’t actually be enforced until the 1 November 2012, giving road users time to prepare for the change.

Single-use breathalyser kits will satisfy the requirement. The legal limit in France is 50 mg per 100 ml of blood, lower than in the UK (the UK limit is 80mg). They cost between £1 and £2 and they will be available at ferry and tunnel terminals for crossings to France. It is intended that people will be able to test themselves to check whether or not they are over the French limit.

The IAM is advising all road users travelling in France to have at least two breathalysers at all times, so that if one is used you still have one to produce for the police if you are stopped.

Why, so you stand a better chance of getting away with speeding ?

ROTFLMAO Knew I needed the tin hat...............

Considering that the IAM's stance is that alcohol and driving do not mix at all advising drivers to carry two breathalysers would seem to have a whiff of hypocrisy to it

Whilst convictions for DD may go down marginally as a result of this measure I'll be very interested to see what affect it has on actual drink related deaths and injuries, little if any is my prediction.

One for the driver and one breathalyser.
If you must be pedantic>
The wearing of reflectorised jacket/waistcoat compulsory if driver and/or passenger(s) exits vehicle which is immobilised on the carriageway of all motorways and main or busy roads.

perhaps for tourists in non-French registered cars
but will it put the fear into the average French driver in a French registered car ? Unlikely !

how many of you out there know Spaniards who don't carry a hi-vis jacket in their car ?

Re the sat nav's with speed camera detection is it legal if you have this disabled on your sat nav? also some sat nav's apart from warning of cameras warn you if you exceed the speed limit, this is seperate to camera warning. Is it legal to have this activated?

I agree no chance of spotting them till its way too late anyway.
That particular one is on a stretch of road that I use a few times each year.

Apart from the more recent measures, the French have been clamping down on speedsters and such for the last four or five years at least and I've seen an absolutely massive difference in their driving habits during that time.

I used to be the tortoise of French roads a few years back.
Now I find it frustrating trying to keep down to their typical pace.

Technically possession of the camera database is the offence.

A speed limit warning device will be perfectly legal as long as it is separate from that.

Ultimately of course it's an utterly unenforceable law.

Thanks yes it is a separate thing nothing to do with speed cameras just lets you know if you go over a speed limit anywhere.

I can disable the speed camera monitor/warning i.e. turn it off totally on mine.
