UPDATE!!

Went to Banco March yesterday and was informed they do NOT charge any commission on purchases made in currencies other than Euros!!

Of course the normal exchange rates apply but I can live with that.

Looks like I will be swapping over banks....

We are still with HSBC in UK!!
I tried and failed miserably to open a current account in my old home town the last time I went to the UK. I don't have a UK address I can use - anyway they ask for proof that it is your home address via things such as utility bills, driving licence, etc.

Instead I opened an account with LLoyds TSB offshore in Jersey where they let me use my Spanish address. They were much more accommodating than the mainland.

I have a credit card and current account with them and now use this when I go back to the UK to avoid paying commission.
