spanish virgin

hi new to sight, my husband and i along with our 3 children age 11 9 and 3 are all hoping to re locate to spain by autumn this year. always fancied almeria but ive heard its very remote and would struggle with schools and getting jobs. does anyone know if this is true. if so could anyone suggest any where. my husband will do just about any type of work, at the moment he is a class 1 (lgv) driver and has every licence going including driving instructor. we also have about 30.000 euros which if possile would like to buy a small business ie sandwich/snack bar or little cafe. sorry for going on but does anyone know about long term renting. we have a house over here which we are going to keep and rent out. just in case things dont go to plan need all bases covered with the kids. any help and advice extremely appreciated. ej:confused::ohmy:

I am still in UK but have been many times and it is a lovely part of Spain. You'll get plenty of advice soon enough! Good Luck:thumbsup:

Damn it!!!! The subject title had me going for a bit!!!!

Anyhow, you'll be fine in Almeria (not my preferred choice but anyway) although 30.000 for a business is a bit light. Are you earning good money out of your UK rental? I personally would suggest selling it as that would set you up nicely here in Spain.

One thing I would suggest, that you get on and learn some Spanish if you don't already speak it. There are often openings for HGV drivers for trips to the UK.

Hi.

We live in Almeria.
We lived near Alicante for over 3 years but fell in love with the area here when we came for a weekend away.
There are plenty of areas where there are lots of english people and Mojacar and Roquetas are big holiday areas with loads of english and spanish owned businesses. If you let me know what areas you are thinking of I may be able to head you in the right direction for rentals and businesses. I have found Viva Almeria very handy, they have a great message board too :D

Cant help with Almeria but you will find €30,000 a very small sum for purchasing a business. Quite often you have to pay so much rent up front as well as the traspasso and you do really need to keep some in reserve for emergencies. Certainly Alicante to Javea there are very very few businesses for that sum of money.

Unless there's genuine goodwill, never pay a traspaso. Never done it, never will.

Hi
Welcome to BE, when we had our short stay in spain hubby could of got a job with driving a transporter back to the uk, however like we said if he was coming back to the uk all the time there was no point in moving, there is a lot of hgv jobs however you do need the language as most are with spanish companys.

If we would of stayed there hubby was going to try other things rather than driving.

Where abouts will you be going

Given how different the driving instruction would be, and ONLY registered schools are allowed to teach, the only L plates in Spain are green and on the cars of newly qualified drivers. You would have to be pretty well fluent in Spanish to teach as the test is all in Spanish.

Go for long term rental property only to start with, you are going to have problems with a lack of Spanish, and the fact that only your Class 1 driving license will be of use, all other qualifications will NOT be usable here. You will almost certainly have to look for some other form of employment here, I'm not trying to sound defeatist, but you are starting out with a lot stacked against you. Look for somewhere in the southern coastal areas, that's where most of the Brits are. Car re registration isn't hard, as jdr has said look in the Free beer thread.

I dont mean to upset you but it is really hard to find work unless you know the language (OH and I dont speak Spanish). There is only bar work available and that really is dependent on age - you are taking a really big chance with three children. There is only OH and I to worry about. If I were you wait until the children are off your hands and then if it all goes pear shaped it's only the two of you that you have to worry about. I am sorry if this upsets you but we have been out since January and it is not as easy as one thinks:(

Hi... she didn't when she first went over 4 years back...but she did return back to England 18 months ago (health reasons - single parent & needed family support) and her and 4 children were speaking fluent Spanish !!! My cousin is a journalist and will be working on a Magazine for an Estate Agent over there... she is hoping to start her own mag...

My husband and i do not speak Spanish either..Do you both work now and what is it you do???

Best to let common sense prevail. It looks like you already have a good deal coming off for you and looking at your posting I guess that Spain may be a future thing for you rather than a present one.

Good Luck with the sandwich bar.

Chin up chick........it'll happen!

I was gunna say I would wait until the 14 yr old and then obviously the 9 yr old had finished their education in England.....a lot of kids we have met are struggling with the language at from around 11 yrs old....and definitely 14.

We moved over here this time last year, but Mr E works remotely via the internet for a UK company. And I've picked up cleaning and bar work. We wouldn't have done it without security...and we are lucky that we have it. Many young families have had to go back, which is upsetting.

It's not easy getting work out here, even if you have Spanish as a second language....so I would stay put until you are sure where you wanna go, have security (30,000 euros...will GO in a flash). We have already re-mortgaged...:o hence I'm back to work.

Good luck hun......hope everything will work out for you.
