Default Spanish TV

Would having Spanish TV be beneficial and an aid to learning Spanish? Does some of it have English subtitles? I have been told that most of it is game shows, and some channels are 24/7 game shows, with Dusty Bin and the Golden Shot, but presented by ‘’One Sheeet’’ I cannot find any Spanish channels on my UK Sky system.

Why would you use Sky to receive Spanish TV? Surely your TV will receive all the Spanish terrestrial channels (60 or so last time I looked).

Hello Fred.

That is not exactly what I asked. Sky does have an ‘’International listing’’ Chinese, Muslim, Star Bharat, Punjabi, etc.

At the moment I do not have a Spanish TV aerial, I wanted to know if it was worth getting one.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that Sky had any foreign channels - it's a long time since I used Sky.

In theory you should use a proper TV antenna , but if the signal is good in your area a very cheap indoor one may work, or at least give you some idea of the channels and content available.

There is a good program guide here.

You can watch many Spanish TV channels as well as UK and other worldwide channels on TV tap using your tablet or phone. It's not in playstore though. I have used it for quite a while and once you get used to it , it is very good.

Thanks Fred and BobI have got a couple of those indoor aerials in the garage I bought 10 years ago, maybe the signal has now improved, I will give them a try. Also I will have a do in downloading TV TAP, it says Sky sports, and I’ll believe it when I see it (that would be a bonus). This has been written in 4 separate paragraphs and not in bold. There are a number of sky sports channels on there from UK Italy Germany etc. Lots of channels for all sorts. You can limit the number of channels by selecting UK and Spain etc to be shown otherwise the large number can be overwhelming. You can also use the search facility to search for specific channels.

There are no Spanish TV channels on UK satellite
The only one there used to be was TVE International...the Spanish equivalent of say BBC World News...but this was removed apparently due to EPG data violations many years ago

Either get a TV aerial (indoor aerials are no good unless you are very close and have direct line of sight to the masts)
or
Most SPanish channels are available live and direct via the internet :
La 1 de TVE en directo - RTVE.es
https://www.atresplayer.com/directos/
https://www.telecinco.es/endirecto/

Subtitles are only in SPanish.

I didn't understand your post originally because I assumed you live in Spain. But you mean Spanish channels in UK. No idea how that works. As far as learning Spanish it depends on your level. If low for example below intermediate you probably won't get much watching real programs although with subtitles you see some words and phrases you reognise. Still it is not a bad thing to do now and again.I think to decode enough to follow programs with more than just gist you will need a good range of intermediate vocab and language. Still as I said everything helps.Try a mixture of different activities and you will eventually improve
good luck

Some Spanish programmes are good; some are rubbish. TVE2 is roughly equivalent to BBC2, with programmes of "nature", cooking. TVE1 has a good programme at 20.30-21.00 (Spanish time) called "Aqui la Tierra" with 3 minute clips on a variety of rural/cultural themes from different parts of Spain. Gives you a good idea of the variety in Spain.
