Bit of a long shot, but does anyone on here have children in Spanish schools (primary and/or ESO) and who get help with books etc.?

In the Valencian community (may be national, don't know) if you live more than 3Km away from your school, then you are entitled to use the school bus and get assistance with school dinners. If you can't use the bus, then they give you a few cents per Km travelled.

Anyway, this hasn't been paid for the last 3 years due to lack of funds - anyone else found this?

Also, the government gives help with the purchase of books (bono libre?) - again, for my two sons in ESO, this still hasn't been paid. Last year it was paid in August but nothing yet this year again due to 'lack of funds'.

We went in to school last Friday (final school day before 1st October when school dinners start again) to be told that the government hadn't yet decided who could stay for school dinners and who couldn't. There was uproar at the school with parents screaming about who was going to look after their children whilst they were at work! Some have told the school that the children would NOT be attending until it was sorted!

Is this a national situation or just the Valencian government?

I'm not usually a money grabber but for our 3 children this comes to several hundred euros - and is sorely missed. Book bills this year was over 400 euros each .....

We havent experienced or heard anything like the problems in Lliria that you are having.We used to get distancia payment-it started getting paid later but we got paid and our daughter got a years worth of school dinners for about 45 euros until she stopped having the comedor.

The above do not apply to us anymore because we live in the town now but the bonolibro was paid out on time and all her school books were sorted within the first few days of going back to school.

I havent heard of anyone else having problems either.I hope they cough up soon cos it is a lot of money involved which parents rely on and obviously not having books in class is a real disruption.

What next?

Here in Galicia - Primeria (year 5) the schools books were reused from the previous year, with the just the purchase of English and Music. With regards ESO (Year 1) we had to purchase all the books but with a voucher of 140 euros. Year 3 the books were reused from last year with a voucher for the purchase of a maths book of 14 euros. All the vouchers were given in July except the 14 euro voucher which we were given last week.

What sort of books do they need to have, and how much approx a year would the cost be? x

The books for my two sons were in excess of 400euros (each). The books for my daughter were about 380 euros. Plus, of course, all the reams of paper and the 'note books' to write in.

We've now bought them all so that they don't feel left out. However, I'm still wondering when we will get out 'bono libro' and also our transport monies for the last two years (for all three children).

I'm also a little concerned that the Valencian government have STILL not decided who can and who can not stay to school dinners - something is VERY wrong some where.

I didn't see where it said when the list was coming out but at least it's communidad wide and not just our school.

Let's hope they decide soon (and the book money for secondary schools as well).
