And how are the Spaniards? Do you believe that all the Spaniards are of black or brown hair? Of black or brown eyes? People like Clive Owen, Catherine Zeta Jonnes etc etc etc, they are british, but they are brown or dark eyes, black hair etc etc etc. In comparison with me I would be the northern European

Don´t worry, I admire and respect brits who really go for the language and take an interest. I am learning French and well, my french friends are supportive but they do take the P...:lol:


The only ones I don´t have time for are the ones that have been in Spain a while and think they know it all, language, culture. You know who you are:thumbup:

Yes you can. By the clothes, the mannerisms. The socks in the sandals..
joke aside, I think you can spot a guiri a mile off. Yes there are exceptions but very few.

It's strange but only yesterday as I walked through Chiclana I was struck by the number of locals who could pass for Brits in the way they were dressed. A large percentage were dressed in shorts and tee shirts complete with US logos, much the same as the relative few Brits and other continentals who were around. Guess we must be an exceptional town.:)

I´ll be in Chiclana next weekend so I´ll check out the local fashion scene, down this neck of the woods, real madrid tracksuits are the height of fashion:)

It is a tradition in the UK that Intellectuals wear sandals and brown woollen socks in the summer and walk into doors as they wander up and down corridors thinking deep thoughts. Mathematicians are the worst, as nothing they think about has any relevance to the real world and by the time they reach their mid twenties they are burnt out.

No doubt they are the same in Spain.

I watched a big, fat, elderly couple dressed in tight grey shorts, identical Hawain shirts, and, unbelievably, black socks and flip flops. They were walking past a line of bars looking inside and at the menus to decide which one to enter.

The group I was with was terrified and a barmaid and waitress ducked under the counter. When the couple went into an adjoining bar, there was a huge sigh of relief.

An hour later the couple appeared in the doorway of our place and I called for a taxi to take me home.
