Can someone tell me how to stop getting spammed in the first place. I have a serious problem with this on my work email (c.100 per day).
I delete my browsing history every time I log off etc. but still get emails related to names/products I may have searched on the internet.

Legitimate Amazon order confirmations are sent from [email protected] or [email protected] Have a look at the headers from the suspect email and compare that to what is shown as the sender's address.

You should take steps to avoid giving your e mail address to spammers. Many use a disposable e mail address whilst surfing. Many spammers harvest e mail addresses and share these with other spammers. Once your email address is on their list you are F....D.

Most ISPs have spam filters and provide a function to block e mails from senders. You can install anti virus software which includes anti-spam e.g. Avast. http://www.avast.com/en-gb/business

Unfortunately, these steps will not block all spam.

With a problem like you describe, you might have to change your e mail address.

Jeepers!

OK, first off get some disposable email addresses. A LOT of disposable email addresses. Last count, I have over 500.

What you do is go to a website called spamgourmet.com Get an account there and choose a nickname. Tell spamgourmet what your real email address is (but not yet, see some stuff later on) as this is where they'll send ones they forward. With your nickname, if you chose (say) "fred" then whenever someone you don't trust (i.e. anyone you don't know personally) asks for an email address, give them something like
the_website_name.5.fred @ spamgourmet.com The "5" is the maximum number of emails that you'll receive from that email address. After those 5, all the rest will just disappear (though you can log on to the spamgourmet and ask for more - or choose a higher number to start with, say 15).
You can make up any email addresses you like. You don't have to pre-register them or anything. Just so long as you put "fred" in the address, they'll be dealt with. The bit you put before the number will tell you who's sold your email address.

Sorry, but that won't make any difference. People / companies / baddies get your email address from any place you submit it, not from your browser. A lot of places have poorly paid employees who make a bit on the side by selling email addresses (for a few pennies per thousand) to spammers and once you're on a list, you'll never get off. BTW, when the spam emails say "click on this link to be removed from our mailing list", they're lying. By clicking, all you're doing is telling them that the address actually has someone reading the email. That makes it even more valuable.

What I'd suggest now is that since you can't get your one, single email address off the spammers lists, you declare "email bankruptcy" :ohmy:
It's not as bad as it sounds. Just create a new, "proper" email address and give that to friends, family etc. Then create *another* proper email address and give that to facebook, twitter etc. Then create a *third* email address and give that to all your personal finance and "sensitive" accounts. Then a *fourth* for forums etc and a special one for your spamgourmet emails (i.e. where the first 5 from each site you register with, will go). These "proper" email accounts will not be on spamgourmet, but on gmail or whoever you use. Add a number to your name to distinguish one from the other. So; johnnyone1, johnnyone2 ... etc.

Hi everyone,

A good tip when it comes to Spam e-mails is simply check the e-mail address it came from. If it says something like (Undisclosed) then its spam and should not be opened as it will more then likely request you to go to a website that vaguely looks likes amazon or bank ...etc to enter in your login or pin details so they can simply steel them.
