Most people’s understanding is the tories are the landlords friend, quite the reverse. From George Osbourne onward the Conservative government has squeezed the U.K. private rental sector to the point where the landlords have left in droves. At one point nearly 75 percent of property for sale was vacant possession, and as a property speculator, I speak to a lot of people and it was all landlords exiting. As a result we have probably a temporary situation where I can charge what I want and I have a queue! This cannot continue, but I understand the government needed to break the cycle of property being the ultimate golden investment instead of a family home.
