Can anyone recommend an honest electricity company operating in Spain !
I've been with Endesa/Energia for 6 years without problem but have recently been ripped me off. I changed contract to their 'one luz' option. During the online sign up process there was nothing to tell me that I would be hit with a 170 euro bill just for signing up! 100 euros for upping potencia from 1.5kw to 5kw and 70 euros for Derechos de Acceso which i guess is a sign up or connection fee.
I complained about lack of clarity and requested a refund. Denied surprise, surprise. I called for an explanation and was told these charges are standard. Fair enough but I wasn't told that in advance of signing up or after. So I asked to be returned to my old contract and 1.5kw potencia again. A big mistake again I fear as they'll probably charge another fee for that. I did ask for conformation of any charges and was told nothing more than 10 euros to reduce potencia. But i fear the worst because they failed to reply to my email requesting written conformation of any fees.
Thanks in advance, Andy

Hola
At first sight I thought "Wow that's cheap" so I went back and checked 340€ for changing the potencia. Yes that's cheap - pay the man and hope he doesn't notice!
Friends of mine a few years ago tried to up the potencia and paid the best part of 3,000€ They had to have a new distribution board plus new cabling from the fuse to the meter then to the distribution board.

Derechos de Acceso is written into law.
Link in Spanish.
It is all part of the costs of changing the potencia. This link explains a lot. I cannot confirm just how accurate it is in monetary terms

Upping the 'potencia' from 1.5Kw, which seems very low, to 5.0Kw is a big jump. Here the normal potencia is 4.6Kw. We often use the oven & have to be careful not to have all 3 induction rings on too high or the system trips.
To increase the potencia you have to show your company the "certificado de instalaciones electricas", in otherwords, from the people who installed the electricity supply or the updated version if the original was old.
We are with Iberdrola rightly or wrongly.
I assume you are living on/near one of the costa where many properties need air conditioning, for which I'd have thought 1.5 fairly low.

Thanks for your reply but you've misunderstood. No electrical work was required. I have one of the latest meters fitted. Meter readings can be taken remotely and i believe setting the trip out point can be done remotely too but not 100% on that. No one came to my house anyway.
My point is that when taking out the contract online no advance warning of any charges were given other than monthly standing charges for each KW of potencia contracted and the cost per KW usage.

That link was really helpful. It explained everything perfectly. If only Endesa were honest enough to of given me the same information before I agreed to sign up.
They just expect you to know these costs will be payable.

The link confirms the charges were correct. I'm amazed suppliers aren't obliged to warn you of them in advance though.
