Socket problem

I cannot figure out which pin to wire the neutral and which to wire the live to. Does it matter? There is no socket on the wall and the appliance has no plug on it so I am hoping to wire the socket and the plug.
The earth wire is marked and is one of the side pins but there is no marking to indicate the live or neutral. (on the plug or socket)
This type of plug is on spanish appliances (fridge, dishwasher etc.)
The 3 pins are rectangular in shape and in a straight line on plug and socket.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is my first post and so dont know if the image will appear:(

Hiya!

Image is OK but I've never seen a plug/socket like that before. I could make a guess but that's all it would be - best wait for someone who knows what they're talking about.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Weird! Never seen anything like this before.
Come on someone, put me out of my misery........what is it?
As I've been in Spain for 11 years and NEVER seen this type of plug/socket before, I'm intrigued.
Is it just VERY old?

Bought the socket in Leroy Merlin today.
I asked the instore expert and after 10 minutes away consulting someone, she returned to advise me to look up how to wire a plug on youtube... Brilliant!

It is a 16amp plug for a heavy appliance such as an electric hob with a high power demand. When I was fitting the kitchen in our newly built house last year that was the socket where the oven/hob was supposed to go. I got the answer when I went to a specialist electrical shop in Ayamonte with a photo of the socket and asked what plug fitted.

We had moved the position of the fan oven and microwave and we were putting the induction hob (low power user) in the socket position. It was not possible to fit the plug to the hob since the socket and hob would not align.

Le Roy Merlin sell these sockets and plugs so if you pop in you can look at both and work out what wires go where.

How do you "work out" which wires go where?
Surely in Spain it has to be neutral to one side, positive to the other and earth to the middle? There are only three!
How tricky is that?

Have you ever seen one of these plugs?

If not what is the point of guessing the answer - some positive, educated suggestions would be appreciated.

Electrical connections are not something you guess about.

Very true, guessing and electrics don't really go together. Personally, if I didn't know, I'd be seeking professional advice rather than a guess by some non electrician in a forum.;)

Re: Socket problem

John & Kath had the correct answer - these type of plugs are very appliances that need to draw high power. For example, electric hobs should be on a separate circuit (25 amp normally not just 16) and use this type of socket.

If you aren't sure, please don't 'play' - get an expert in.

Re: Socket problem

That plug is rated for 25amp. The plug you should be using for a domestic appliance such as a fridge, dishwasher etc is rated at 16 amp > see here http://www.ferrafils.com/product.php?id_product=624.

The live (brown) goes to the right hand terminal, earth (green/yellow) to middle and neutral (blue) to the left. You should check the rating for the wiring and the fuse / RCD.

http://www.lanzaroterelocation.co.uk...01/wiring1.jpg

On this plug it doesn't really matter which side live / neutral. Note, if you turn the plug upside down they are transposed.

You may find the colour coding for wiring within your property is not brown/blue for example it could be blue/black.

Electricity can kill. As has been suggested, unless you don't know what you are doing get someone who does.

No, it is a two phase plug 25 amp for heavy duty appliance e.g. a cooker / hob.
