Thanks Sue. Was one too late, now first reserve for first vacancy. Got Social Security number today - no problems, just needed NIE/padron/ passport the man even spoke English!!
Didn't realise 2 different offices in Elche - what did I do? - went to wrong one but after an hour walking and "Donde es"? I got there lol

Thanks everyone for replies, this site is great for help and advice

That sounds about right for SS, there are three in our district.
We went to the correct one first when trying to register, but was sent to another, who sent us to the other one.
They said it had all been changed and the first place we tried was now the only one doing it.
So we went back and after a row with the guard he did us the honour of giving us an appointment number, 15 mins later we were on the Spanish Health system. doh
Why don´t they share the info with all concerned when they change the goalposts ?

It's a government plot to keep us healthy by all the walking we have to do between the different offices

You only pay that sort of amount if you are self employed...besides when will folks up dated them selves on this it is? It now just under 265€ per month.

Yes, it is age dependant. I used to pay circa 180 euros a month until I turned 35 and then it went up quite sharply.
