Unless you are in these catagories you will need private medical cover.

Re: Social Security
I don`t know how you go about this though.
Our daughter and their children are covered by her husbands contract, they went in as a family with half a ton of paperwork.

Re: Social Security
Info on one site.....
Social Security Number: Your employer applies for this number when you start your first job in Spain. This number then stays with you for all subsequent jobs. If you are self-employed, you apply for this number yourself.

Re: Social Security
you have to apply for SIP cards - once you have these you get free medical care, your husbands contributions will cover you and any children
Not sure where the office is in your area but try the local medical centre, if they cant help they will point you in the right direction - take with you all your details, marriage certs etc plus your husbands social security number and details

Re: Social Security
Don't use a lawyer for this. He will not know any more about it than you do. As JDR says, a gestor will be for more knowledgeable and will charge a fraction of the price.

Re: Social Security
If your husband doesn't have a social security number yet, he has to apply for one.
This web page will give you all the info:
http://www.seg-social.es/Internet_6/...7332/index.htm
and this page is the application form:
http://www.seg-social.es/stpri00//gr...ario/365_6.pdf
You need to take this completed form to the local Tesoreria, which in Marbella is here:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...marbella&meta=
When he has the number, take it, along with your residencia, padron, marriage cert and passport (and photocopies) to your local health centre. He can register himself and yourself as a dependant. If you have kids and you have them in the family book (libro de familia) you can register them as dependants as well.
