Having seen a thread here recently about SMS and calling non skype users, I got some credit with SKYP to do same.
But if I go to SMS or make a call, all it does is ask me to buy credit?
How do I do it, I dont seem to be able to get past that

It really shouldn't do that.
How much credit have you bought and does it show that amount on the top menu bar on the right hand side (after your name and new events)?

which gives you free calls to uk landlines (and the other end doesnt need to be signd up to anything) well its just 5c connection for up to 60 mins talk time -plus cheaper texts, think its 5c to uk mobiles

Perhaps it's a newer version.
Try sending a test text to your own mobile

When you go to Tools and choose Send SMS Message a box should first pop up to ask you where you are going to send that message. Can you get that far?

Yep, and I choose the person to call, it takes me to the next box, and I can do nothing more as I cant type a message in the text box, and at the bottom of the section it tells me to purchase credit to send an SMS message

and just to confuse the issue I just tried calling myself whilst logged in and it old me the password was incorrect and I must log in again

Michael is the techie in the family, but on the phone at the moment.
I'll ask him if he knows when he's finished with his call....

This is a step by step guide for SMSing......notice on No. 4 at the bottom of the image it shows how much credit you have and how much the text is going to cost you. The only thing I can think of is that your credit hasn't been properly registered yet. Sometimes it does take a while.
