Hello

we are brining our TV/DVD and sky dish/box/card also. can we just set it all up as normal and will be able to watch sky tv like in the uk,or is there things we need to do?
larger dish? if so what size and cost?

It depends where you are moving to, a House inland, Urbanisation, Apartment.

You property type and situation will dictate the Dish size. If you are inland you may require a 1.9 or a 2.4 metres to get the best signal.

If you are moving on an urbanisation you may need to check with your neighbours if there are any restrictions.

If it is in an apartment there maybe a communal dish to wish you can be connected to, for a fee.

Once you have found out which of the above applies, you will need to establish the best signal for your dish to receive all the channels, and just connect to the area point and of you go.

Prices range from the size of the dish you need, i.e. Euros 400 to 700 just for the dish sometimes plus installation cost. LNBs are quite pricey here, much cheaper in the UK.

The Costa Blanca and CB Friday Newspapers available on the Costa have many "specialists" advertising all sorts of Sky TV connections options.

Am sure there are more experienced people than I on this thread who may be able to help.

We are moving to live at a town called Relleu which is 25 mins inland from Benidorm. We are moving into a 3 bed town house which has a large flat roof on a new 120 house development. so theres no point bringing our small dish over then based on what you are saying then? what size dish would we need?

Hola,

Sounds like half your reception problem could be solved, you do need to check with locals Brits what the reception is in that area, but I would think that if the dish is placed in an elevated position such as on your flat roof, you may only need a 1.9 metre to get a good reception.

Benidorm should have a lot of Sky dish suppliers wanting to "help".

Have you considered ditching the Sky box and subscription and subscribing to the Spanish D+ provider?? You can receive all their package with a small 60-80cm dish far cheaper than the "friendly" Brit installer will charge for Sky.
The D+ package consists of around 8 or 9 film channels mostly transmitted in the original audio as well as Spanish. There are also 11 Pay for view film channels (currently 2-3 Euros per film) with all the latest films usually far ahead of Sky. (Most with the English audio option.) Plus 3 very naughty XXX ones
For the sports minded they show at least 2 premier league football games live each Saturday afternoon together with the Sunday and Monday games.
You will find the Discovery and nat Geo channels there too with English audio when available.
There is also a dedicated golf channel. This is of course without mentioning all the Spanish channels that are available for brushing up on the language skills.
If you really can't bear to be parted from some familiar English tv, ask for a big dish to be fitted ie 1.8 mtr, with a dual lnb feed set up for both 28 degs east (sky) and 19 degs east (D+) and you will receive all the above plus the free to air BBC channels etc. But not ITV and ch 4 & 5. Unless you still bring your digi box and free to air card. It is possible to "piggy back" the sky box with the D+ receiver.
BTW I have nothing to do with any satellite company or provider. I am just a simple satellite tv enthusiast based in the Uk with a large motorised dish and enjoy receiving tv pictures from all over the world.

We are currently renovating an old house about half way between Malaga & sevilla and have found reading some of the threads on this site very helpful.

I had it the other way round when I lived in the Costa Blanca with a 1.8 dish. I got Ch4 and 5 and Beeb 2 but never Beeb one or ITV. I also found that Ch4 went out early evening during the summer months. Something to do with the satellite shifting.

Eventually a few neighbours and I clubbed together for a mo-fo sized dish and then we got Beeb one. Also worth nothing, if you're in the Benidorm area, a lot of the urbs there have cable. It actually runs from Jersey (don't ask me how) and you get all the channels then. Ask your neighbours to see what's on offer.

I found your post most enlightening. Could you kindly confirm something for me as I am quite a novice but have a keen interest in all things satellite.

Is it possible to add, or change a single LNB to a double LNB to an existing 2.4 metre dish, and then set the LNBs at different degrees (as you suggest), connect one of the LNB to a D+ box leaving the first one connected to a skybox originally installed with both systems functioning independently?

This would be a dream come true for me.

There would be no problem at all in doing what you request. The main thing to remember is that the dish itself should be pointing at the 28e weaker position and the second lnb pointed at 19e. There are special brackets available from anyone dealing in sat gear to mount the 2 lnb's to the dish.
You will be better getting someone with a sat meter to set it up otherwise you may be be pulling your hair out at the end of the day trying to do it by trial and error.
This is the sort of bracket I refer to.

WOW,we are completly bamboozled by all your speil,especially big wheels.

Just to re iterate,we dont want any thing else but our beloved sky TV.cant live without all my rugby you see.

All we are asking is, based on where our new town is as desribed above,will we be able to watch all our sky as normal as in the UK inc bbc1 bbc2 itv3 chn 4 and chan 5 if we get say a 1.8 to 1.9 metre dish?????????? or will we need a larger one??????? approx cost of the dish????????

re our message above,we have just been sent an email from someone in gran alacant area,and he says people are watching sky tv with large arials and a 12 inch mesh gauze thing only,and that large dishes are not needed!!!!!

can anyone comment on this??

What I know about this, is that a signal is sent from somewhere and bounced to the aerial....but there is a monthly subscription fee, cant remember if it is 20 euros per month (more or less). Am sure that there is a more elaborate explanation of how this works.

Unless it's changed a lot since I lived there (18 montsh ago) the Alicante area doesn't get a great footprint and you needed a larger dish to get the channels. In the Costa Del Sol you could get away with one of the smaller dishes.

Have a look here for a full list of transponders on Astra 28.2 east.
Any that dont have videoguard / Neotion / or Cryptoworks beside them should be FTA.

Bear in mind though that courtesy of Mr murdoch the Sky digi box will only accept the symbol rates of 27500 and 22000.
(after all it wouldn't do for people to find out that there is more to sat tv than sky would it??)
