Ok, here's the misunderstanding the OP and I are talking about a Vonage phone or similar VoIP technology. Imagine it is a UK phone line with a very long cable. When I want to dial my friends in the UK from my Vonage phone I just dial their national number, no country code. When I dial Spain from the same phone I need to use the country code.

in other words can you use vonage or whatever to get your SKY BOX to call the Sky computer system....? which i do not think you can.... unless the OP is actually refering to calling the sky call centre and speaking to an operator...which is not made clear in the OP..."to link thier box to Sky" is the part that looks to be causing misunderstanding... can the OP make it clear as to what they want to do....either call the sky call centre (skype and vonage sometimes work!) , or get their digibox to call the sky computer (which normally not work via vonage or skype) |

Looks like I'm wasting my time posting in this thread!

Re: Sky Telephone link
just tried to do a callback from the sky box to the sky computer using a Skype line, and it failed three times.....
the old digidialer also failed to conenct.... so maybe the addict could try a callback on his vonage system...? Looks like I'm wasting my time posting in this thread! and the receiving end of the call sees your caller ID as a UK number it would be intersting to know... |
Re: Sky Telephone link
to see what a skype uk number looks like, log on to the website and start the procedure for registering a Uk number I tried it and for a Glasgow number got the choice 8 different numbers the Glasgow prefix of 0141 and the rest of number seemed normal as well (3 digits then 4 digits)

Now this is progress, thanks Guy. |
Re: Sky Telephone link
Just been looking at the Vonage site and it implies that it should be possible to connect a sky box to the line and that it would work. But does not state definitively that this is the case.
Has a small section on moving to Spain. This is the Vonage page read into it what you will or give them a call and ask the question. Anyone want to be a sacrificial lamb? Jim |

Re: Sky Telephone link
Ok, I've checked with Vonage. They say it is no longer possible as Sky have increased the modem speed and although they have petitioned Sky to make changes Sky has not yet come up with a commitment date.

i also understand that they also upgraded their system so it no longer looks for international calls, but non UK calls... ie tackling the same problem but from a different view....

Re: Sky Telephone link
Is a phone call to Sky essential to activate the replacement card, when it arrives,or can it be activated just by following on screen instructions?
