The OP has lost BBC which is the strongest transponder but gets ITV3 which suggests that it isn't a dish issue. She also says she "can watch all channels as usual, apart from ITV and BBC". By this do we assume she can still receive C4 & C5? In which case the dish definitely hasn't moved.

our fresat always breaks up in bad weather exactly the same as the old sky box did, though prefer the freesat on the whole

So far the only channels that have been moved to the new satellite (Astra 1N) are Channel 4HD and in Spain the reception has improved enormously.

Correct the Fives moved to 1n last week, and its reception in GC is weaker that their previous frequency, so bigger dishes are required.
It is also expected the ITVs on freq 11973 and 12402 will also omve to 1n and thus will also require bigger dhises than you have at the moment.

The extreme receptoin areas like GC and Cyprus that used to be able to receiv the "fives" on "smaller" dishes can not longer receive them and will require bigger dishes.

Nothing to do with 1n. Just generall badly installed dishes or dishes that have moved in the winds, or pooor cabling being use, or water in the cables after recent heavy rains.

On that frequency - leased by the BBC - it carries BBC radios and BBC interactive streams. It has no Sky Sports on there.

No. Not just c4HD. The Fives that were on 12422 astra 2 south beams - the "free to view" Fives - on Sky boxes were mapped to 1n last week - a few days after C4HD. And soon the free to view "itv1s" will also - they are in test on 1n at the moment.

It's a shame the OP is going to waste money calling somebody out to realign a dish that doens't need aligning. I wonder if the Guy will offer a refund.

The best thing she can do is ditch the Sky box & buy a FTE MAX S93. This will fix her problem & she'll have a much better signal reception.

On Freesat what Freesat channel number is Sky News?
I cannot see it on the latest Freesat channel list.

http://www.freesat.co.uk/files/6013/...e_04.10.11.pdf

I did say it is avaible in FTA "non freesat mode", but it is not on Freesat. which i said with "Sky news is not available on Freesats channel list - even though it is free to air. YOu have to play around with the freesat boxes menu system and pop the Freesat box into Nonfreesat mode."

Freesat and "free to air" are different things.
Freesat and nonfreesat mode are different things.
FTE is a free to air receiver, not a freesat receiver.

Where as they could be wasting money buying a receiver when the problem could be dish alignment or lnb issue. Would you offer them a refund if they buy a receiver and their problem still happens? Especially when a dish check should cost no more than 30-40 euros.

If the dish alignment is off, or the LNB is out, then buying a new receiver will do nothing. Just buying a new box cannot magically solve all problems, especially if that problem is at the dish! Especially if reception of all other Astra 2d channels (itv2,3,4 etc) are also affected (they receive one or two A2D channel in the daytime when the A2D signal is strongest, but not the weaker channels or others later int he day when the signal is weakest), which suggests dish / lnb issues.

We do not know if the OP uses a Sky card or not, they have not said, so ditching the Sky box for a box that cannot read a sky card may not be an option.
We do not know what Sky box the OP is using. Some Sky boxes perform a lot better than other receivers.

I am with Sat guy on this, Sky news is on a non freesat channel on my Bush freesat hd.
This always works when my sky boxes crack up due to the rain.

Seems I opened a can of worms, and again, I am sorry for that, as that was not the intention!

If it makes any difference, I use a Sky card and it is an Amstrad DRX890C (I think if I read it right!). BBC is now back on and off, so sounds like something is indeed lose... Luckily we are not paying for a technician to come out, however as mentioned before, if possible I would rather have avoided it as it would mean our neighbours having to stay at home.

As only one channel is now partly missing, it is not do urgent as we can use the iPlayer when needed (ITV player a different baby, as it never works very well).

As Freesat boxes and free to air has been mentioned for Sky news, out of interest, how easy is it to switch out of the freesat mode?

Thanks again for all your help and patience

No switching at all, our channels are just below BBC1 which is on 101.

It varies from box to box, but on most its menu, settings, "mode" and you change that mode from freesat to nonfreesat.
and on some you can have a "custom channel list"

As far as I can remember, on set up it asked if I wanted to search for non freesat channels and just loaded them.
