I see we have now lost the red On Demand button and now have "catch up" instead. However, you cannot get anything with it unless you connect to the internet. Sky are offering a free box or you can attach a HDMI cable to your router. We obviously already have a cable to our router and an Apple box so if we bought another router and attached that and used it to get "catch up" from Sky would we be using even more wifi? Sorry if this sounds as if I don´t know what I am talking about!

Hi. The Sky box will only use more "wifi" data when youre downloading programs to watch through Sky. You wont know its there any other time. On ours if Im downloading a boxset to watch, it slows all the laptops connections down to a stop. But thats just the same if I had a laptop downloading a boxset & using up all the wifi bandwidth. I think thats what youre asking. If youre not, let me know and Ill have another bash at it for you.

Just feel we are laying Sky 65 quid a month and are now getting less and less. So is it worth getting the free box. Presume if we can put the DSN on Sky won't know where we are.

Well Im not yet in Spain. We move to just outside Barcalona in July/August. So I wasnt sure what TV is available on Sky if any in that region. Do you happen to know? And what channels do you get and what have you lost? So far Ive just started researching this "Smart DNS" mallarky to get UK TV. But I do know you can get Sky Go through the service. Which would mean all the Sky channels found in the UK.

You will still need a VPN or DNS for SkyGo though.

Don't forget if you are using internet for sky services, it is possible for them to check ip address and cut off all (sat dish & internet) of your reception! Ideally you need to route through a proxy server to hide your ip.

Many SKy channels are still available in the Barcelona area- and available on 80 and 1m dishes.
But the non SKy channels like BBC ITV C4s and Five's reception is not the best - since they moved to their new satellites - and require a very large dish to receive them...
To use any of the Sky On Demand, Sky Go, BBC Iplayer, ITVPlayer 4OD, 5ondemand, through most devices, you need a UK VPN service.
To use on a sky box you either connect your sky box to the vpn running router via a Ethernet cable, or you can use a Sky Wifi adaptor to connect tot he wifi signal from the vpn router, or if you have one of the new sky+hd boxes, simply use its built-in wifi to connect to the uk vpn router.
Sky camn check the ip address, but if using a UK VPN< they will simply see it is connect from a "uk shared network".... not definitive that it is for someone outside the UK.... and they can only stop your sky card channels, they cannot cut you off from the free channels.

Sky Sports News UK HD is on the European beam of 2E.
Sky Sports News UK and Sky Sports News Ireland are on Astra 2As north beam.
YOu may be mistaking its recent change in reception as Sky Sports News UK and Sky Sports News Ireland used to be on 1Ns European beam, so good coverage across Spain even on smaller dishes. However, since its move to 2A's north beam a few weeks ago when they moved all channels from 1N, its reception has gone back to what it was like about 2 years ago - and even in my area, that north beam may not be available 24/7 even on a 2.4m dish mid to late afternoon.
(Same goes for Sky SPorts 4 SD and Eurosport2 SD, and a few Sky Movies HD channels).
