Sky+ Box dying?
Is it just my box or is anyone else having problems. Lost signal overnight Thursday, worked from Friday mid morning until this morning when nothing again (error 29 no satellite signal)... Just wondering

Re: Sky+ Box dying?
Most problems are down to individual systems, and not a "general" failure, as it woul dbe quite someting if ALL $ UK TV satellites failed at the same time.
You say you have checked the dish and LNB - how? are you certain there is signal coming in and power going to the LNB?
Some Sky+ boxes will not boot if their hard drive has failed - so a full format may help * a full system reboot does not always format the hard drive?
Intermittant signal may also mean cabling issues - shoirts or burnouts due to water or cable breaks
Do you have a spare box that you can use /borrow to eliminate your dish / lnb / cabling / receiver?
Have you changed the default transponder frequency to help the sky box boot up?.
The main / correct DT to use is 11778, which is where the full 7 day Sky programme guide information is.
However, if 11778 is unavailable (its on a north beam and even some 2.4m dishes may not be able to receive this frequency 24/7), then luckily all other frequencies carry limited EPG data, whoich can also help the sky box to boot.
NOTE: If you used to use use 12129 as a DT setting, then the single channel on that frequency (S4C) , left 2 weeks ago,and that frequency no longer carries the data required to boot a sky box up. Been the most popular call about ignal problems in the last few weeks.
Also, 12129 is now configured for HD channels, and its settings cannot be manually configured on sky boxes.
So use another frequency like 12207 v 27.5 2/3 to help boot the sky box up instead
On a SKyHD or Sky+HD box the process is
unpl;ug the box from the power for 30 seconds, then reapply the power, services, 0, 0, 1, select txponder, input frequency, green to save, sky, wait for the programme banner to populate, channels will be back
On a SKy or Sky+ box the process is
unpl;ug the box from the power for 30 seconds, then reapply the power, services, 4, 0, 1, Default Transponder, input frequency, save, sky, wait for the programme banner to populate, channels will be back
If you simply "add channels" this does not always work.
As 12207 is the frequency for sky news, one of the easiest frequencies to receive, then you should have no probems in getting the sky box to boot. If it does not boot using this frequency, then there is something else wrong with your system.

Re: Sky+ Box dying?
The Guy... you are an absolute star I had been using the 12 129 frequency, tried the 12 207 and it's now working like a charm. Thank you so very very very much.
