If a person has a good command of English then any accent will not be a problem.

Although people often say "I cannot understand the Irish/Scottish/Welsh accent, it is an exaggeration.

The same applies in Spain with regional and South American accents, if the level of Spanish is good, they will understand whatever accent the speaker has.

Have you tried having a conversation with say someone with a strong accent say from Wigan? Often I think regional accents are more difficult.

No - not my opinion - the fact was we had great difficulty in communicating.

My English is as good as it gets and my accent is more or less neutral - most people don't manage to guess where I come from in England. So if these two ladies had difficulty with my accent it certainly wasn't my fault.

Good job I'm a Yorkshireman living in Geordie land then lol. I served many years in the Forces with a few Wiganites hence my attempt at humour. I have nothing against them apart from being red rose Lancastrians of course. The ones I know are great lads but I would never tell them that.

I have heard many but can't say I have heard every British accent, certainly there are some that I have struggled with in the past. I also think it depends if someone has a very strong regional accent how helpful they are in wanting you to understand them.
