I've already said this ages ago, so not news to me!!!

I don't understand why people can't see what is right in front of them.

Last year Morgan Stanley pulled out of a deal to buy €3 billion of unsold homes from Santander. I would be more convinced if it were investing rather than talking.

There is an interesting graph from El País here, perhaps MS has not seen it.

Even in the anti-government El Pais there was an article today, pointing out that the number of new companies formed last year was the greatest in 4 years. The government (which hears from various sectors, and is aware of which big contracts are likely to go ahead, which foreign firms are going to follow Nissan and Ford's examples and invest in Spain) has stated that it sees growth ahead and the unemployment figures dropping by year end. Now people may choose to disbelieve the govt., but in the cities they surely can't be unaware of all the new businesses, the buzz in the bars at night? For instance take a look at the summary of internet investments in the last 6 months of 2012

Why would people disbelieve the government?

It does not make sense, as the Spanish gov. has always been upfront, honest, never broken promises and always puts the citizens first.

............and corruption, double dealing and backhanders don't exist,
though strangely enough every time I switch on the Spanish news that's all they ever seem to talk about.

Here's a very interesting news item. Car sales in Spain in the first half of February rose 9.2%. Now this is being put down to the car rental industry preparing for the tourist season, but is still a very optimistic sign - we shall have to see if this trend continues or is just a blip. Perhaps all those car companies planning to invest in Spain knew what was likely to happen?

It's just a blip as the article says:

Sales to rent-a-car companies increase 75% compared to the previous year

Sales to other companies and individuals fell by 10% and is now at a level last seen 20 years ago

There is some positive news in Spain as you quite rightly say steviedeluxe, but the corner is a long way from being turned yet.

I found it very interesting that the guy from Goldman Sachs says that Spain is on course to be the next Germany. GS also say that the UK has the worst outlook out of all European countries. However, Goldman Sachs have a very poor track record of getting anything right. That they should command such high fees tells you everything that is wrong with the system

As I mentioned earlier, being the "next Germany" involves many unwelcome changes, such as "mini-jobs" with associated pay-cuts, and fewer social benefits. There were a lot of news articles around 10-12 years describing Germany as the sick man of Europe.

Yes indeed, Germany is nowhere near the model country. There are tens of millions of Germans, especially in the East who earn a pittence

"Next Germany" eh?

Hell that would be something, though they could always be German puppets if Mrs.Merkel continues to have her wicked way with them.

Just imagine it,...if you can,... Spanish guys marching around like little soldiers, "Zer are ordeufs weech must be obeyed at all times ! "

Bugger this for a game of soldiers, I'm packing my bags and off back to Blighty.
