But if you are based in the UK it isn't possible to control their behaviour ... fortunately the vast majority of our guests tend to be elderly, or with very young children and realise that the 'heat of the midday sun' is not good for them ... and that there is plenty of sunshine all day!
I can't really ask our keyholders to go over and say 'keep the noise down please because those that live here like to sleep at lunchtime', can I? All I can do is ask them to respect the property and the neighbours in the information pack which I send (which I am sure they do not bother to read based on problems they have had), and they either choose to accept or not, depending on what type of person they are. One set of guests hated being out of town and spent their whole holiday driving 30 minutes to McDonalds in Denia for lunch each day because that was what they liked, rather than try the local restaurants on the mountain ... needless to say they didn't rent our place again! but they can indeed put a list on the back of the front door with the basic rules/norms of the community (by which I mean Spain, not an urb) including a request to respect siesta time & whatever local by-laws there are for instance where we lived Florida we weren't allowed to use the (private) pool after 8pm - a local by-law - something to do with the splashing attracting the alligators from the lake after dark:eek: the holidaying neighbours did - no-one would have complained if they hadn't made so much noise at 2am, though. Someone called the sheriff & they were told off & warned they'd be fined if they did it again - they did & they were interestingly, so were the owners of the property, because they had made no effort to tell their tenants the rules whenever we've rented holiday places in other countries we've expected & been grateful for this type of thing - better than having an irate neighbour yelling at you - or an alligator eye-balling you through the pool-screen:eek: of course, not everyone will follow the rules/norms even if they know what they are it sounds like you do pretty much all you can to inform your tenants, but unfortunately not everyone does where we used to live, owners had to get permission from the residents committee to do holiday lets - all owners were informed of this and agreed to it (on a legal basis) before they bought properties- after the debacle with the French group I mentioned in a previous post, this particular owner had their permission revoked- they owned several properties so that was quite a source of income cut off - simply because they hadn't put a list of rules on the back of a door! |

Just to throw a spanner in the proceedings, a Spanish friend of ours mentioned some time ago that there is a move (by Government) to do away with the concept of 'siesta time'.
Anyone else heard of this? |

Anyone else heard of this? It's a strange concept that demands quiet during the day but mopeds and other noises are tolerated throughout the night. |

I vaguely remember reading somewhere about bringing Spanish working hours in line with the rest (or Northern) of Europe.

Apparently Granada are enforcing siesta times with fines imposed for breaking the rules http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ul-siesta.html
Think this link may have been posted already before. |

Think this link may have been posted already before. difficult to enforce, true, as the article states - but so much easier to complain with the law on your side:thumbsup: |
