Interesting situation.
Sharia Law v Newcastle Utd.
Several Ncl muslim players have been warned not to wear the new club shirt sponsored by Wonga because they will be breaking Sharia law.
Quite a few ppl in the city are rightly disgusted with the deal as well, regardless of Sharia law.
The fans will be expected to shell out 50quid a time for replica shirts bearing the WONGA Logo.
Personally I wouldn't be seen dead in one, .....however in view of the fact that several of the players are practicing Muslims, I await the outcome with interest.

Lazy reporting, its not just under Sharia Law, its under Islamic law, no Muslim is allowed to profit from lending money to another. Gotta be said, Islmaphobia aside its also pretty insensitive to do it in an area with the greatest amount of personal insolvencies! Have you seen the interest rates they "offer"? Its funny they don't receive the same vitriol the banks do eh? We live in "interesting times" for sure.

One wonders what specifically the problem is with Wonga when the current sponsor is Virgin Money and the Premiership is sponsored by Barclays.
Incidentally I believe I am right in saying that Muslims are allowed to profit from lending but not through interest.

However, commercial activities can also be financed in which the Islamic saver collects a surcharge at a level similar to conventional interest.

comes back to the same old thing..... this is our part of the world.... we do things our way... don't like it, bugger off back to where your laws apply and stop ramming them down our necks. If you were born here, live with our laws,or use a passport and go where your laws work. simple.
