Transferwise. Get a brilliant exchange rate and the cost is a quid for relatively small amounts. Arrives quickly too.

But this is really about sending money to the UK FROM Spain, are the recommended companies good for that too?

Because European banks aren't confused and don't normally rip you off for "luxury" things like sending money abroad, the foreign transfer business is kind of redundant here.

Just go to your online banking portal and send it.

This seems a good way to transfer amounts over £3k (and tbh the £10 charge for amounts less than £3k doesn't seem terrible either)

You will be pleased to learn that you will not be charged any commission for purchasing currency through our international currency platform. The only fee that you will ever be charged is if you exchange amounts below £3,000. In this case we will charge you £10 for the telegraphic transfer fee to deliver your purchased funds to your destination account. All purchased currency over £3,000 is free to your nominated bank account anywhere in the world.

Anyone used them?

That's the whole point of Nobanx, its a bit like pier to pier investing only no risk to your dosh.

Instead of the banks processing the exchange, its done from one person to another through the intermediary- Nobanx

Check it out.

You reckon?
I'd be a bit worried about doing that if I had a large sum to send back to the UK

You wouldn't be able to transfer large sums, you would have to do it in small chunks, they would get into money laundering trouble with large sums.

I transfer about £500 a month into euro and now that Ive been with them or a while, I am able to transfer larger amounts (not yet checked exactly how much).

However, I only need to transfer about £600 a month in total so it suits me.

My late husband was recomended them a few years ago, and we tried with small amounts initially and then gained confidence. No way would my husband have risked our money unless he was absolutely sure.

I can only tell you my experience, for full information go to their website and read what they do and how they do it.

I think you've made a very valid point that no one seems to be taking heed of.

The OP wants to send money FROM Spain TO UK! The rules and charges are NOT the same even if they should be.

What's a large sum? €10k or less, Nobody cares about. Up to €500k you only need to explain the source and reason for the transfer. Above that is a bit more complicated, but if it's legitimate, it's not a problem.

Its not the legitimacy that would be the issue, it would be the safety when you are talking about sums of £150 - £200 k

Exactly Mitzi, a bird in the hand is worth two in a bush. A few of those currency firms have gone under and everyone lost their money. Most are run from a back street office and punters have no protection.

If it's a large sum and you have a good relationship with your UK bank they are usually willing to negotiate on rates.

Well if you can't trust your local bank then some 3rd party isn,'t going to be any more credible.
