Cricketman, Very true, though I admit I don't know the ins and outs of the agreement so can't really comment on it. I had originally posted the info in the event that it wasn't worth Vicky working because of the social security payments she'd need to make to the Spanish government monthly even if she wasn't earning, then at least she could keep her pension entitlement via UK payments.

Angie, yes he can as long as he fits all the other criteria as that's what I did,the amount you need to pay varies from year to year, currently for class3 contributions he'd pay £13 odd pw and this would entitle him to pension and bereavement benefits only. I can post a link for the HMRC site(am I allowed on here?) or alternatively just google "voluntary NI contibutions

I am moving to the Costa Blanca next year with my husband and little girl.

I work at the moment as a freelance illustrator, I do it all digitally and via email so I can do it anywhere. It's just the tax issues that confuse me. I don't make a huge amount of money, about £ 6000 a year, so i don't actually pay any tax here in the UK.

My Husband has a job lined up so will be 'plugged' into the Spanish system.

I have heard that if you are self employed in spain that you still have to pay each month even if you aren't earning anything!

I get paid in Pounds into my UK Barclays account

Any advice would be appreciated!!!
Thanks
The Autonomo system can be a minefield if you aren't Spanish and used to the (actually) more relaxed systems in the UK

Hopefully paying a visit to this site
http://www.advoco.es/hot-topics/43-g...mo-system.html
will help you to understand what is involved.

there are other things available, such as discounts and grants available for new business start up - especially by women, businesses in the arts and IT.
so try this to get some idea

You may feel that as your clients are in the UK you would be just as well operating through an umbrella company there, taking a small salary and paying tax in the UK - but just remember that Spain may want a sliver or more of that as they will demand tax on your World Wide earnings, unless that income is subject to a Dual Tax Agreement with HMRC.

hope this helps you if there is any other information I can help with, ask and I will see what I can do. Remember that others on the outside looking in will also gain the benefit then

kind regards
Dom
