Fred, quite right and only applies in Spain, anywhere else you would have to do CBT. So much for whole EU rules!
The OP is still advised to get a full A in the UK for anything bigger, if he has started getting into bikes.

Took 15 posts but the facts surfaced eventually :thumb:

For my 125 my Spanish insurers only wanted to see A1 my licence.

Took 15 posts because that wasn't the original question - Spanish insurers shouldn't need to see an A1 licence if you have a full car licence. In fact, my Spanish insurers have NEVER asked to see my licence (in 13 years)

I was asked for a copy of my license when I made a claim. A bit late then to find out then, that your licence is not valid for the vehicle you have been driving

I just have a regular british driving licence I've had for over 40years, I've not been into the motorcycles until I came to Spain and the mopeds seem easier to get around with.
200cc is what I would like to get just not sure if they will let me register it on a regular license

It is very easy to verify. Look on the back of your license to see what you are licensed to drive.

That depends -- if your driving license is valid in Spain, no need for an international permit. When we travelled to Barcelona, we rent there a scooter and guys at that rent-a-scooter company (you can actually contact them yourself at <spammy link removed>, usually those companies have the latest information about regulations) said that if you're a B type license holder in UK, you can automatically drive a scooter in Spain.

... today maybe. After Brexit - who knows
