Satellite TV (Again)
Still looking for a satellite TV installation I come across a firm w-a-y down in La Zenia called Norton's with an interesting offer. Searching the Web to see what I find on these guys I dig up an old (closed thread) http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=562324 - it's hardly flattering - but it is old and 5 years is an eternity in this business sector in this part of the world as we all know.
So can anyone update me with the latest?
Any info about these guys would be much appreciated.

Re: Satellite TV (Again)
Until the new satellite goes live in 10 weeks or so and all the relevant channels are reassigned there is no point in buying any new system as no one knows for sure what the reception will be like.

Re: Satellite TV (Again)
Thanks for the feedback. Since I inadvertently mentioned a point which is "not a subject for discussion on this forum" (bear in mind I am still fumbling in the dark with this Sat TV in Spain stuff) I have edited the post to remove it. By all means delete the thread.

Re: Satellite TV (Again)
And at the moment, some channels in some areas of Spain still need a 2.4m dish for 24/7 reception - some Sky Movie channels, for example.
But this may change, as can reception of other channels (for better or worse) with the second new satellite later this year, or the final new satellite next year... and no-one knows what will happen until it actually does - anyone who says they know what will happen is only guessing and speculating...all as detailed in the other thread...http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=794446
And the new sky encryption (that stops their cards working on non sky receivers - and why some people can no longer view Sky Sports Sky Movies and HD channels using their sky card in a non Sky box), and rumoured new cards next year, may be the latest attempt at reducing / stopping CS systems. And some systems do get "oversubscribed" by their operators, which can mean a lot of stuttering and missed viewing as their servers cannot cope with demand - especially at peak viewing times - like football or f1...
I see nothing wrong in mentioning CS in a general manner like you did, but it is a no-no for detailed explanations as to how it works or where to get it are allowed. And since Fred quoted you also, then your edited post is still available to see!
In the same way you can mention "murder" but do go into details as to how to do it or best methods! Or mentioning P2P downloading, without mentioning names of the sites... But then you have expat newspapers happily running adverts for companies selling such services - a case of profit over morals....but then that's newspapers for you!

I don't have a problem with it being mentioned - in fact it's important to be able to point out that some of the solutions on offer are CS systems - in fact they seem to be multiplying like rabbits at the moment.
There is plenty of information about it on the Internet so if you don't know what it is - Google it.
As The Guy said, it's discussing it on the forum that isn't allowed.

I didn't even know what CS was or even that it existed.

Someone has suggested a Currys Slingbox - what do you think? They are only 69 quid and as I am returning to the UK for a few days could bring one back.

Re: Satellite TV (Again)
A slingbox needs a host box also, so you will need a "host" in the UK, and your box in Spain. In the UK it will need connecting to its own freeview / freesat / sky box. And the internet, of which may be an issue if the host house is on a limited upload / download cap / fair usage policy.

Just curious. Was watching Sky news yesterday and they visited their (sky) counterparts in various parts of Europe. Does anyone have a clue why Sky does not invest in Spain ? Is it the government blocking it, maybe Sky does not see a market here (cannot believe that) or any other reason that someone may have more info on.
Any guesses

The other Sky programs are limited by their agreements with the programme rights owners to only be broadcast in the UK.
If they wanted to broadcast them across the EU they could but they would have to negotiate new, very expensive deals with the rights holders which would probably cost more than the increased income from extending their coverage to Spain and other EU countries.

Sky start to try and contact you after 3 months of no contract from a box / card on multiroom...unless you have blagged it well enough they are "overlooking" it.
