Nothing is for free!

It is true that VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) means that calls between other VOIP users (on the same system) can be free. But, as soon as anyone else calls you or you call them, then a charge is incurred.

For example, to have a 'normal' user call you via SKYPE, you need to have paid for a SKYPE IN account (mainly to get a number) and the other person will have to pay for the call. Also, if you call them, then it costs.

Sat Internet comms are highly reliable and of high quality, but cant/dont compare on pricing with Landline DSL or Local Micro, Wireless systems or 3G on cost, IE install cost can be around the 750 to 1000€ mark with monthly cost for a basic 2gb at about 30€, but the real crunch is usually in the Fair Use Policies (FUP), these can quickly be gobbled up, and then it can become expensive or alternatively the system can slow down to a snailspace below dialup!!,, Carefull attention should be given to this,
As to Free calls within EU,the phone per month is usually around 10/12€, do you intend to to make that many calls, if so it can be cost effective, for example I use VOIP stunt frequently, minimum cost is 10€ for up to 120days activation, using the Phone to phone there is a 5C connection charge and then unlimited talk to worldwide landlines, works well if you have to make a lot of EU or international calls, but the snag is u have to also have a landline to take advantage, although PC to PC are free!!,,, Generally i would say Sat phones are only really cost effective if there is no other alternative, ( IE your out in the campo and out of 3G or Local operator coverage)

Shaz do you know what the initial outlay will be, we have just singed today with Interlink they offer a simular service as you are talking about. At the moment they have a special offer on but as we needed a new 3mtr pole and extra cable to do the job we had to pay an extra 85eur. We are paying
216eur to have the service installed but that is with a new router and the extra cable and pole. With this we could have either Voipcheap or SKYPE but we have decided to pay an extra monthly payment and get a UK number.

The boardband is not free that will cost us 55.67eur a month and as we wanted a UK phone number that will be 14.50 a month, this gives us free phone calls and the people ringing us from UK get cheaper calls as well. This monthly payment is still cheaper than we were paying with telephonica and we get boardband instead of the dial-up.

Just a question are you sure you are getting the boardband connection free if so that sounds pretty darn good to me.

I would use the Astra2connect broadband package there are installers for Spain and it's extremely affordable It's two way Sat unlike the Skydsl service which relies on a phone line as well.

Hi,

I think the Astra2connect service is much slower than my Telefonica 3.5G service for the same price.
