San Fulgencio Cricket Club needs Players
Hi everyone
A Cricket Espana qualified Coach called John Algar has been coaching Cricket on La Marina Urbanisation ( between Torrevieja and Santa Pola ) for about 2 years now and in conjunction with the Minister of Sports and the Mayor of San Fulgencio Council he is now in a position to put the club on a firmer footing
To this end a committee has been established and we are meeting regularly to establish the club on a firm financial and playing footing
all of us are giving our time willingly and we take no monies of any sort for doing so,
My name is Robert ( Bob ) and I am the Seniors captain and it is my responsibility to get the word out in Forums such as this one
Our Club name stems from Johns love of Lancashire Lightning C.C so we started as La Marina Lightning then following discussions with the Town Hall we became San Fulgencio Lightning now to integrate more with our Spanish neighbours San Fulgencio Lightning Club De Cricket, But we are not limited to the La Marina or San Fulgencio area we are looking to recruit from a wider area on the Costa Blanca
On the 2nd may 2009 our first match took place between Lads/Lasses and Dads as well as the various stalls, refreshments, Classic car show etc that worked quite successfuly, none of this could have been done without a lot of hard work being put in behind the scenes and I was very impressed by everyones willingness to put the work in and the Lads and Lasses enjoyed it which at the end of the day makes it all worthwhile, and we managed to get some funds for the Club as well as being able to donate some Monies to 2 charities.
Follwing on from that we have played a Twenty/20 match against Sporting Alfas and we are arranging more matches for Men, Women ( yes Women we are very keen to get a Womens adult team going ) and the Youngsters but whatever your age and sex if you want to play then we will welcome you
The medals and cups awarded by the Town Hall for our Dads versus Lads and Lasses Match looked very impressive and a mention must be made of Councillor Mark Lewis who's advice and support was very useful
We have had a lot of Backing from Cricket Espana ( who are based in La Manga ) and in particular ex Middlesex C.C. administrator George Wambeek and he has agreed to be our Vice President
there are ongoing talks between the Club, Cricket Espana and the Council over some land for a full size Cricket pitch and these seem to be progressing, however we cannot play without players and as well as an introduction about our club it is an appeal for anyone in this area to come and have a chat a bat or a bowl and see if you like Cricket
John and some other Adults provides coaching every Saturday at 3 on La Marina Market Place we provide all the equipment and there is no charge of any sort and anyone regardless of age or sex are welcome to come along, whilst I am mentioning charges we do only make one charge we hire a minibus to take some younger players to La Manga and Alfas for further specialised coaching we ask for 5 euros from each passenger and this goes some way to cover what is a large cost for us
If you are interested in Playing, helping out or would like more information then please contact John 605 528 652, Walt 630 821 204 or email Deb at [email protected]
