I just booked to fly brum malaga 17 jan to 22 jan. Total cost? £10!

Get a life and obey the rules. At that price even if they shafted me for £30 at the airport (which they won't 'cos i just take a manbag) its still a bargain.

Now as for BA and their disgusting hidden fuel surcharges - thats far worse IMO.

And that Laydeez and Gennelmen is the whole frigging point. Ryan does exactly what it says on the tin. If you want an inflight massage and mamada, then that's going to cost.

Ryan may be run by a pikey (personally I don't think so as he fails the tooth/tattoo test) but if he is then he is a damn clever one who is on a winning streak. A simple proof of that is the amount of free publicity he gets from discussions like this which must be going on all over the world.

Ditto to the number of times people like yourself have stated the obvious. :) Everybody is well aware that if you book online, take no luggage, pay with the right card etc, jump through all the right hoops, it´s cheap! If you fall in that category, great, lucky for you, but people point these things out as if they are the only one´s in on the secret. Most people reading this forum are well informed about air travel, you are telling them nothing new. :) I´m a big fan of budget airlines, they have bought affordable travel to millions that could have not previously afforded it, and if you satisfy their conditions, you can indeed fly cheap, but the reason they can offer £5 flights is that somewhere along the line, many are paying top dollar. If you can fly for £10, great, enjoy it, but spare us the lesson in how to fly. :)

Quite! Unlike Monarch who invite you by email to check in online, but neglect to mention that only those that have booked (and paid) for allocated seats are eligible for online check-in. That is infuriating.

I think it is a matter of convenience of airport. I personally would not choose to fly with them not so much for their rules but for the way that they treat their staff. However they are the only airline that fly into my local airport.

Don't blame you, you don't have to like them, just use their cheap flights. As there is no airport that Ryanair use within 3.5-4 hours drive of my house I have never used them, but I'm sure I would if they were a bit nearer.

To be honest, I really hope that there is no need for me to go back, especially as the only thing that would get me back would be a serious problem with family or business. I certainly can't think of a reason I'd want to go back.

If I had to go tho, I'd pick Ryan.

I heard that after the trouble they are having with a few of the airports where they are trying to get priority landing by saying they are not carrying enough fuel to stack, that they are fitting peddles on all the seats to run the engines so they can land safely.

You can opt for an auto-allocated seat for free to enable you to check in online with Monarch now. At least you could when I last used them a couple of months ago. I suppose you risk being placed in a middle seat though.

A quick anecdotal - not exactly ryanair but possibly of some interest to others.....

Last time I flew Monarch I checked in online and printed my own boarding card as usual.
At the boarding gate the lady took my printed card (a4 paper of course) and kept it. She didn't tear the bottom bit off and return part to me, she just kept the whole thing.
I queried this by asking whether I should retain a portion of the boarding pass to present on the plane. She said "No, you don't need this anymore".
Slightly confused, I climbed the steps to board the plane, fully expecting the crew member on board to check my boarding card, as she was doing for all other passengers in front. My turn arrived but she was distracted by another passenger so I just continued onto the plane without showing my card, and located my seat (the seat number is of course, printed on the boarding card).
After I sat down I suddenly had doubts about my seat number. Was it 12A or 9A? I couldn't check my boarding card because I no-longer had it.
If I was in the wrong seat then chance was that someone else would come along and claim this seat using the evidence printed on their own boarding card. What then was I to do? I would be asked what my seat number was and when I said I didn't know I would be asked for my boarding card, which I would then have to explain that the lady at the gate took it off me without giving me a portion of it.
Fortunately no-one else claimed my seat and the above situation didn't arise, but it certainly added to the stress levels.
