Running out of gas ...

Britain faces the prospect of gas rationing for the first time

Am I being over-cynical or is this a subtle way of making people less likely to object to the fracking proposals?

at this moment it looks like a means for the suppliers (non-uk) to jack up the price
also that no planning was made for a long term cold spell despite the £millions they pay the Met Office for advance long term weather forecasts.

Expect that if next winter is mild to see the price rise because they have bought in supplies at a premium and have to pass it on
Note - Centrica who own British Gas report a profit of £2.7bn, of which BG is £606mil

Britain has two gas pipelines into the country, one under the channel and one coming from Norway.

Britain has two gas terminals for ships, one in the Thames and one in Wales. There is a conveyor belt of ships bringing gas to Britain and Europe.

The North Sea still provides Britain with 50% of it's needs, and this can be increased short term at anytime.

David Cameron himself on a trip to Qatar negotiated a fixed, long term contract for gas supplies to Britain, probably the only thing he hasn't cocked up recently.

I live in Spain and have a wood-burning stove.

Stop scaremongering Domino.

After I finish collecting my wood for the fire tonight, I'll go down to UPS and get them to send over my spare bottle of Butano.

You organize the blanket collection Domino, and if Pocaloca can send me the pattern, I can try to knit as many balaclavas as I can.

Can anybody else chip in to help keep British tootsies warm ?

OK, I have been round the local Spanish, they feel very sorry for the Brits back home and have promised blankets galore - subject to us getting out of the current cold wet spell.

So do I send them round to you to store in your garage

But how much longer will they need this help ?

There seems to be a threat of having a heatwave next month

What's wrong with the Brits of today over there ? No sooner have I spent half an hour looking out my hot water bottle, then they want my spare ice cube tray as well. I don't use the hot water bottle since I've been using the cat (or she's been using me), so they're quite welcome to it, but.

Let it not be said that the expats in Spain were lacking when it came to Britain's hour of need.

Plenty of room in the garage, Domino, Beastie's coming over from the other side of the valley to help me move the old fridge.

Just need the Costa del Sol crowd to donate last years scarves...

Cracking day here !

I'm working on instructions to convert their garden barbecue into a brasero to stick under the dining table.

And I've been round the local food banks to drum up some Gaspacho soup to warm up our pensioners. Apparently there is a limit to Spanish generosity.

They may not have a dining room table left - I've just read a typical DM story about a snowed-in family burning the furniture to keep warm!

Having spent one memorable Easter weekend many years ago with no electricity for 3 days, and snow up to chest height when I opened the front door, I do feel sorry for the people in the worst affected areas, though.

Weather is crap...no snow here though. Think we live in a bubble:lol:, drove to Heathrow on Sat and there was a lot of snow on M25! No probs inside, the whole house cosy:D friends tell me they are spending a fortune to keep warm on the Cds. Weather is relative, I hate the winter here and I hated winter on the CDs when it rained for weeks on end. I want to live somewhere with temps. a minimum of about 23C year round:)

We had 2 lovely days 2 weeks ago...pub lunch by the riverside, dozing on the steamer chairs in the garden...downhill ever since:rofl:

Singapore ??
the first time I ever saw the monsoon washing over the land and the land was steaming
but at least out there the monsoon ditches actually work, here we have ditches that despite all the millions of gallons of rainwater are still dry - although the water is running off the olive groves and down the main road, pushing along boulders that are making bigger and bigger holes in the tarmac.
:frown:

I have a question.... If we are running out of North Sea Gas why have Eon just opened their £400 million quid gas platform in the Southern North Sea? That's a lot of money to invest in something that will only provide a day or so worth of gas....

Re: Running out of gas ...

I think people are confusing gas reserves in the North Sea fields and gas reserves available for immediate use.
