Richest earning parts of Spain

Re: Richest earning parts of Spain
Yes, there are more jobs here, but nevertheless people here have been affected by the "crisis"; however, at the same time the queues in the fishmonger might lead one to say "crisis, what crisis"?
As an aside, I notice in our local newsagent, there are usually about 2 copies of ABC daily compared to some 100 copies of El Correo! El Pais falls in between.

Oviedo does very well
Household income is higher than for Madrid and Barcelona!

Now post us the black market and other illegal earnings league and we'll see where the real money is.

And don't forget when you read what the ABC publishes it is a very right wing newspaper, that is a big supporter of the present government.

I've lived all over Spain. People in the South are way poorer than those in the North. It's evident in so many ways

What I find amusing is that this suggests that "rich" is any household income above €25,571 per annum. And we wonder why people hide their money.

Obviously with averages, half the people earn more, and half the people earn less
Rich is entirely relative, the rule of thumb is that people think that someone earning twice as much as they do is rich.
And remember these are the amounts after tax. 2,000 euros after tax in Oviedo (which is average) would give a decent quality of life - which is why people live well here

The chart clearly shows it. The highest bracket is "mas de 25,571€". It's a little surprising how much of Spain averages lower than that, but with the high unemployment and all, I reckon it's not that surprising.
Yes, one can live on €2000 per month, although challenging to pay a mortgage, electricity bills, heat, kids, taxes, transportation, etc...
I reckon it's easy to rationalise the necessity for frugality as good thing, especially when they have precious few other choices.
But for those who can actually afford a home, a car, heat or kids, I'd have to believe they could well be classified as "wealthy" by this new emerging standard, and I reckon that would include most of us on BE, too.

25,000 euros (£21,000) is the average househol income in the UK too i.e. the amount that the average (median) family receives
So household income in Oviedo is exactly the same as in the UK, but lots of things are much cheaper in Oviedo - rent, childcare, private schools etc.
