doesn't this vessel come under a new class of ship which IIRC she is (at the moment) the only one?

there are many wealthy people who live in hotels on a permanant basis, this is surely an extension of that, just afloat instead of in New York, Bayswater or wherever.

if the blurb is right .....

Since our launch in 2002, The World has continuously circumnavigated the globe, spending extensive time in the most exotic and well-traveled ports, allowing us - the Residents - to wake up in a new destination every few days, exploring with depth we had never before thought possible. It's a lifestyle we are truly grateful to live each day.
then she must be due or in my terms overdue for a drydock visit for a bottom clean and various other works to be carried out.
what happens to the "passengers" or is it "tenants" then??

IMHO she is a cruise liner, plain and simple, too large to meet the normal definitions of "yacht" however she may be (mis)used

But people who spend their lives on cruise ships to avoid being taxed come into a class of their own I think.

But t he whole point is this is not a cruise ship, it is a yacht that they own

Or own part of ;)

but "The Cruise" is decided by the contribution of the 200 who live inboard

IMHO they are still a passenger, although I would be willing to take a step back and agree to "Part Owner".

A Rolls Royce is still a car irrespective of who owns it and who drives it

Regardless of the definition it certainly isn't my cup of tea ;)

I've been on a couple of cruises, they are OK for a week or so but no longer, sharing space with the same boring barstewards for any longer, no thanks.

To me the pleasure of a yacht is that it is something that gives you personal freedom.

Just trying to imagine the typical topics of conversation alone, would be enough to send me scarpering off to some remote cave in the mountains instead.

My feelings exactly, it would be my idea of hell.

Thats a bit of a twat assessment:lol:

People are either nice or shit based on combination of their inherit nature, their nuture background, and of course how you interact with them.

1.4 million British took cruises last year, trouble is they have become cheaper and the ships larger and brasher. Royal Carribean sell em cheap and pack em in and they would be a nightmare. I love being on the sea, seeing different places. Windstar and seabourn are great. i like being pampered too and having my suite cleaned twice a day, more on request.

Most passengers on QM2 are celebrating something special. We met a couple from Wigan whose family had a whip round for them. You don't have to mix at all if you don't want to. Tables for 2 and even full silver service in your room/balcony if you want.

I don't think I would like any kind of cruise ship.

Having ones own yacht is about having the freedom to go where you want, when you want and without having to ask anybody.

If I wanted to go cruising it would have to be on my own yacht again. The World is not enough.

What is not clear is how active the "sub-let" of cabins is into some sort of open market but if this is allowed, one could guess at the overall charge being in the region of USD30,000-35,000 per month - somewhat more expensive than the regular top-end cruise ships of Silversea and Oceania, for example which are around this price for two including all drinks and gratuities, before discounting.

Id rather buy my own 70` - 80` motor sailer and employ a small crew including a top notch chef , go where you want when you want

....but if you had to pay a crew and a top chef:confused:

Had a look at some photos of the World. Doesn't seem very swish, have seen better cruise ships. You can rent for around $1000 to $1500 per night!
