Every year these are published and it has to be pointed out it doesn't work in the same way as a uk list would. Torrevieja is the classic example. It makes it sounds like Burton on trent or something. A decaying town with gangs of unemployed youth, empty shops etc. It fails to suggest it is one of Spain's most famous summer tourist towns and has been for decades. What makes it rate poor is the fact that it has the highest number of retired folk in spain and therefore not generating income through work. Ask any Spanish person where the poorest places are in Spain and they will tell you its the locations outside of madrid. There is one famous shanty town that has no actual electricity!! It is positively third world. Similarly I have been in parts of spain near Marbella which are frighteningly poor. Benidorm is similar myth. It is far from poor and I work for a construction firm who last year built the most expensive real estate in spain in benidorm!!! So take it all with a pinch of salt

Even in the UK there are various lists, sometimes the poorest, the most deprived, roughest etc. It's no different in Ireland and if you look at income alone, only the capital would top the list and everywhere else would look poor. I think everyone here is aware that a higher income alone doesn't make an area better, especially if the rents are high. As for Benidorm being poor, I think you might be mixing that up with it looking cheap and tacky.
