Do you mean the Steak house just near the La Plaza? If so Teed up posted a while back with a recommendation, but I havent tried it yet. Worth a check for any steak lovers. Please can you review it if you go. Thanks Jon PS Had the black pork ribs today at Luis after John contacted me about it - and we went together - he has them grilled or 'in the oven' (w onion sauce). I like the BBQ sauce for the grilled ribs, but chose the oven ones....just to try them out... but Luis gave me a side of the BBQ sauce, so I had the best of both worlds. Have a great lunch tomorrow, get ready for a 'belly buster' :) .... Jon |

Im a bit old fashioned I'm afraid, my 10 yr old mobile has no camera. A friend has a smartphone that has an ap that reads the bar code of the wine label and gives all the details including the nearest place to buy it - sounds really good!

I had a check as there was a recent thread about wonderful spanish steaks I filed away for my later use and found this (in May) http://britishexpats.com/forum/showp...84&postcount=7 I was sure that teedup told me that this was the new management doing the resto. After the original closed. If so this must now be the third owners if its closed again. Anyway looking forward to the reviews and enjoy the ribs at Luis'! (and their really quaffable lo cost red wine!) Jon |
Re: Restaurants
A couple of Monte Gordo recommendations:
Good curry freshly cooked at Maharaja Patiala. Nan's reasonable too. Lunch menu 6:99 Choice of curry + rice (or salad/chips) + drink. Great price/quality. I rate this place over the one in Ayamonte IMO. Or 10 Euro menu choice of starters; choice of curries; nans or rice. Filling. Sunday evening buffet all you can eat 10 Euros; starts at 6pm PT. A la carte are well. Walk up the pedestrian bit with casino/ocean behind you. Pass the supermarket/general store on the right with the Cafe de Portugal opposite. At the corner with the pharmacy on the left, turn right for 20 yards. Cafe de Portugal itself has a good English brekkie + fresh squeezed OJ with English products 5:50. Great value. Also famous for its pies (Apple Steak+kidney etc in the afternoons) Nosh well! Jon |

The blue sky's have returned to the Algarve and Luis has started his new Sunday lunch menu today. It is a buffet format with all you can eat for €11.99.
A selection of starters with soup, tomato salad, vegetable salad and tuna pasta. Mains were beef, pork ribs or lamb accompanied by a range of cooked vegetables and roast potatoes. You can of course have a little of each as I did and the condiments to match (apple sauce, mint sauce and horse radish). Sweets included fresh fruit salad, cold rice pudding and Creme caramel with a Portuguese twist. A bowl of fruit was also available. Maria has also brought a new range of wines to the party, one Alentajo red Caiado Tinto from Adega Mayor. If you are quick you might just get down here before he closes today! ENJOY. PS. Eat your heart out Jon BXL you missed a real treat!!! |
Re: Restaurants
John has taken the words out of my mouth and I totally agree with him, it was excellent. Regards Bryony

Eat your heart out Jon BXL you missed a real treat!!! Luis is really working to provide a wonderful service for his customers and continually improve his already great resto. Friday we took a taxi with good friends and ate there and after had drinks in Luis 'old' resto afterwards by the roundabout. Even with Taxi fares included it was amazing how little it cost us, and was a wonderful day great food and lots of drink flowing. We've done it before and will do it again (with these and other friends) as its a fun way to spend an afternoon... and you'll spend much less than you would believe. That and the choices in Ayamonte, with 2 couples sharing the taxi, I think is the biggest competition to the golf club (currently - till Jan/Feb when VV opens). We think the GC is expensive and even with a taxi you can get some great choices for the same or even less money. We really want the GC and VV to succeed - but we feel fortunate that we have so many choices 'on the doorstep' Looking forward to trying Luis Sunday Lunch, but not feeling too bad as I think our big group meal on Saturday in the mountains was a great find. And the second resto we stopped at/checked out. Will post later on those 2 resto's. Unless EsuriJohn you want to do the honours.... Happy munchin' Jon |

why go anywhere when you have wholesale food distributors started on your own region.

Luis has rearranged his Sunday opening hours with the launch of the new buffet format. The buffet starts at 12.30 and runs through until 18.00 which for those living in Spain means 13.30 until 19.00. This may be on the advice of Maria who is a keen golfer and understands that with an early "T" you can play 9 holes and enjoy lunch or play 18 with a later start and an early dinner. You will certainly need the appetite to take advantage of everything on offer. This week the selection of starters is:- Prawn Salad, tomato with cheese, tuna pasta salad (last week this was delicious) and of course a fresh vegetable soup. Mains are:- A Porchetta of pork stuffed with orange and festive fruits, roast beef and lamb. All or any of these can be accompanied by roast potato's, mashed potato, a selection of vegetables. There will of course be apple, mint and horseradish sauces. Deserts are:- Fruit salad, rice pudding, custard pudding and a meringue surprise. A fresh fruit bowl will be available if non of the above tickles the taste buds.:thumbsup::thumbsup: |
