Residency-Anyone applied recently?

Has anyone applied for residency recently?
Do you still need to supply proof of €€€ in the bank? If so how much?
Or is this still current?
You no longer need proof of income when applying for residency. as I found on one expat website!

But shouldnt we already have residency? Long story........ Just don't ask. :curse:

No residency card now as they have replaced it with a certificate.

We downloaded the form from Fred James post. Filled it in and took it to the Police station. They stamped it and told us to return in two weeks. When we returned we were given two forms to pay at the bank 6.70 euros each and when they were given the proof of payment we were handed our certificates.

No proof of income, money in bank or anything. It is not a legal way of proving your identity anymore as it is just a certificate.

Do not know if I have covered everything but feel free to ask more questions and I will answer them if I can.

In 2004 we paid 6.30€ for our Residencia Cards. I though we were paying for the manufacture of the cards!!

It's a shame they've stopped issuing them. :frown:

I went a few months ago, they told me not to bother as it wasn't needed any more and is being phased out.

They are not doing the residencia card but replacing it with a certificate. It is one of the ways to make sure that you are on the Spanish system so worth doing.

Is it only expats who won't have one? Or is the certificate everyone including Spaniards?

I'm not looking forward to carrying a certificate round with me to prove my identity/use when I pay by debit card.

It seems a backward step to me.

The certificate won´t even be accepted as identity. So you´ll have to carry something else as well to prove ID.

Great innit?

Definitely a step backwards.

I believe it is only for members of the EEC, the Spanish will still have their residencia cards.
Afraid you will still have to carry your passport.

I have printed off the form and translated the instructions.
This is the form for a residents card. Are they using the same old forms ?
The instructions ask for 3 colour photos which you don't need for the certificate

Having said that, I haven't used my passport as identity for ages. When paying by card I just show my plastic driving licence and thats acceptable. Once, I was asked for my passport or NIE and I had neither on me so they just accepted it.

I think my main gripe is that the tarjeta de residencia was totally universal....it was accepted as ID for absolutely anything and everything from making purchase in a supermarket to buying a house at the notary.

Other forms of ID, such as the driving licence, may or may not be accepted. You never know until you get there by which time it is too late. Even the passport won´t be universal as it doesn´t contain your address, so would have to be supplemented with something else in certain circumstances.

Is it too much to ask for to have a UNIVERSAL form of ID like all the Spanish have?

When it comes to renewing my tarjeta I am going to say that I have "lost" it so can´t hand it in. I should be able to use my out of date tarjeta for ID in most circumstances.....and in others I will just have to produce the crappy certificate.

Excellent idea. I will do the same.

I don't know why we can't just continue with the card, it makes life so much easier.

Ah! But that wouldn't be the Spanish way, would it? Make anyrthing to do with bureaucracy as difficult as possible, that's their motto!

Couldn't agree more. Before I got my Tarjeta de Residencia, I went into Valencia to buy something at Mediamarkt and they wouldn't accept my plastic driver's licence, told me only passport, which I didn't have with me.

The Spanish will still have their DNI card, non EC citizens will still have the Tarjeta de Residencia, it's just us EC extranjeros who'll have a worthless piece of paper!!
