Default Renting a car ( on lease )

Hi there,

We had a question regards car rental in the Costa Del Sol. We want to keep our inital costs down in Spain, so presume a second hand car ( paid for monthly is the best bet to get a cheap car deal )

We dont need anything fancy, just a pleasant car to drive around. What are the different purchase options on buying a car in Spain. Do they do the monthly lease option like in the UK. Or is there a long term rental option ?

Wondered if anyone could give me a link to a website ( through private message if need be ) that showed how much we would be expecting to pay for a medium sized car lease for the month. Or if anyone has a rough idea as to prices. Also how do car sales companies organise this, is it subject to credit checks as per the UK, as unsure how this would work, as we will be new residents??

Thankyou xx

Quite a few long term lease type places advertised in local papers in the area town crier, costa del sol news etc. Saw one this morning an Astra 350 euros a month what seems a good deal.

If you go through the search facility on the Forum I posted soem companies a while ago as I was looking to do this myself, well still will be.

Your credit in the UK will be irellivant unless you want to show it, as far as im still aware under data protection laws and other issues the UK Companies are not supposed to share information, however I have read on other fourms they do try when assessing Mortgage applications.

For me I will benefit from this, but I can look into it more if needed.

You can get a car from AugiraCrown monthly pretty cheap, you can pay around 300 Euros pm. for a ford fiesta/c3/micra/focus type vehicle. Sometimes less, if you choose to take a smaller car. This includes insurance and free multiple drivers. You can extend for longer, but it works out cheaper if you are prepared to swap monthly.

If you only want a small car like a Fiesta or Corsa then getting a new one over the hoops for 5 years probably wouldn't cost much more (if any more at all) than this... and it is yours. even if it did cost a little more it would probably still be worth paying the difference and owning the car.

You will need to purchase insurance though unless there are any offers from the dealership at the time.

Econ, is it pretty easy to obtain finance for vehicles, especially if you have no / little credit history in Spain ?

I am not so sure that it is - we paid cash for our car but my employer wanted to change their vehicle and as they had not been trading for a full year the finance was not available to them

You have to remember that the ability to buy things on credit here in Spain has only become widespread in the last couple of years. Mortgages and Bank loans will rely on proof of current earnings or a sound business plan that shows the ability to repay. Business and car loans are much easier to obtain if you own a property here, but obviously the bank will take a charge on the property. I am not sure how car finance works here, although you do see the ads for €99 deposit and €99 a month for something like a Daewoo in the press. There is a twice weekly paper in Valencia called Traijin which is a bit like Loot in the UK for cars and property for sale, maybe worth a look online http://www.trajin.es or http://www.segundamano.es/ .
Regards
Tim

If you have a property you should have no problem at all or if you have and/or will have several thousand euros on account in the bank that will help, depends on how well you know your bank and on your bank. Finance companies don't know you so it might be more difficult there, although when I bought a car for the wife the companies finance company was a department of our bank, initally they wanted this/that and the other but when they discovered I have various accounts with them it was a breeze.

So there could be different options that might be open for you.

Its very rare in the Uk for new business to get Finance, but some companies specialise in it, I had a nice new motor in 2006 on a good deal for non-status customer's, woudnt get tick for a box of matches at the moment, lol

I will have a bash at leasing a motor when I get established in Spain, I think the thing for me is to keep any type of monthly payments down to a minimum, give it 18 month's 2 years and see how it is.

There is only 2 real big things holding me back at the moment and the whole vehicle problem is one of them
