I can't comment on how successful the they are, but from my albeit limited experience of markets in Spain I'd say around 30% of the stalls are selling what you describe.

Not much experience of markets, but I think you could find yourself competing with the North Africans who bring their wares over from Morocco. Have you considered budget priced quality rugs?? Never seen many on stalls even in Tangiers...might be a gap in the market..

Plenty of people walking round the bars here this time of the year selling rugs and coats, instead of the sunglasses and toys of the summer.

Hi there......

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck !!

My sons nearly 4 years old, and he started school in September, it's a Spanish school and he loves it.....I was a bit worried as he is the only English in his class, but he's so young he adapted extremely well and quick!

We don't live in Alicante so can't be further help.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

All the best
x

My husband and I have been thinking about relocating to Spain for a couple of years now, but find it all really scary - the prospect of selling everything here and leaving the security of what we know. We really need to do it though. We haven't got children to consider either. It's just the two of us.
My mum puts pressure on me about leaving her behind, but thats all that is holding us back really I guess. Pathetic excuse!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am sure we will do it. I speak quite good Spanish, my husband is a welder/fabricator so should find work in Spain. I am in the travel industry and we would be looking to live in Berja/Adra area so the up and coming tourist area of Almeria - not somewhere already established. I'm sure we would be fine.

He would probably find work easy as a welder, they use tons of railings, gates and rejers for the windows, etc on the houses.

Hiya,

My advice to you is, if you have been thinking of relocating for years....just do it !!
The worst that can happen is you have to start over....:)

We were so scared...but thought hey....regretting something is far worse than trying something and it not working out.

Nothings forever, just take each chapter in your life as an experience !!! Your mum can visit all the time...... ...well opnly if you want her to ;)

Bes of luck in whatever you decide.

Thanks for all the comments folks, maybe I wont bring all my market gear with me straight off,we will have too work eventually but not under any great pressure so maybe I will just suss things out first and enjoy settling in to way of life culture etc,who knows what may come our way.We are looking for a new way of life so why not change everything after all I have been a market trader for 13 years. We too have talked about this for years and our little girl is a good age to move so it`s now or never,it`s very reassuring to hear that so many of you don`t regret the move, although I realise some people don`t make it,like you say better to try something and fail than not to try at all.We are not as brave as some of you though and won`t sell out uk home yet,we will rent out there first until we see how we all get on.
