Relocation
We are British ex-pats currently living in Canada for 30 years. We would like to retire to Andalucia. Can anyone advise if there are any problems they can forsee. We would be looking at selling our property here and long-term renting in Spain.
Thanks
Shirley

Re: Relocation
Hi Shirley
The biggest problem I have faced is dealing with the beaurocracy without being able to speak the language well enough. We have been lucky with good neighbours and they have helped us a lot.
Spain has its own set of problems and challenges, as does any country. You are used to these already I guess having already lived in another country, whereas it was something completely new for us and a baptism of fire!!
So my only comment would be that you should learn Spanish as soon as you possibly can, and seeing as you are renting you won't have the worry of ensuring a purchase is handled correctly and legally. I may be wrong, but someone told me its general to rent only on a 6 month or 11 month basis. I'm sure someone on here will have solid info on this.

Re: Relocation
Even Spaniards have a problem with Spanish bureaucracy that's how the concept of the gestor came about.

What problems do you think you will encounter?
Here is a link to an interesting article about the expats having finding it hard to acclimatising themselves to the way of life here.
