Default "Reforma ley de tráfico"

Has anyone else received this leaflet?

There are now only 20 offences that you can get points for:
  1. Alcohol
  2. Drugs
  3. Refusing a alcohol/substance test
  4. Driving dangerously, against the flow or racing
  5. Using equipment to try to beat Tráficos systems (radar detection for example)
  6. Not following drive/rest periods.
  7. Tachograph offences
  8. Driving without the correct license
  9. Throwing/dropping things into the road that might cause an accident
  10. Not respecting priority, stop signs, give way signs or red lights
  11. Improper overtaking
  12. Endangering cyclists
  13. Illegal u-turns
  14. Reversing along motorways
  15. Not respecting police on point duty
  16. Driving too close to the car in front
  17. Driving and operating a device at the same time (mobile, satnav, etc)
  18. No seatbelt, helmet, baby seat, etc
  19. Driving whilst disqualified
  20. Speeding

Speeding is a funny one. To get points you need to be well over the limit. There's a chart. For example in a 120km/h limit you would have to be going more than 150km/h to get points... and even then it's only 2. 171-180km/h will get you 4 points, 181-190km/h 6 points, and over 191km/h 6 points and a ban.

So it looks like it's ok to drive with no insurance in a complete wreck with no brakes.

Also must be ok now for residents to drive foreign-plated vehicles.

You'll still get fined, you just cant get points on your licence.

Anyway, as we have a UK driving licence, can they actually take points off us?

Ah I see

In Spain an offence means you lose points

In the UK an offence means you gain points

Which means they can't be compatible

No change in the driving habits yet!

I posted about this some time ago.

As I understand it, if you are a resident and driving with a UK licence, then the first time you get done, the licence is registered on the fines database and if you lose enough points in future it will become invalid for use in Spain - I don't think they can actually confiscate it.

First time I read this I thought it was an extract from the spanish version of The Highway Code.
