Not only that but someone should tell them the benefit of networking too. We took our neighbour (does translation and spanish/french/english teaching) to a business-2-business networking event last week. She, and all her family/friends, had never heard of such a thing... we were there 2 hours and she came away with three people that want Spanish lessons and one of our clients wants three of their websites translated into Spanish too. She's gobsmacked, they were really struggling for money and yet didn't have a clue how to go about getting more work

In Andalucia in particular there are a host of "asociaciones" that are set up especially to network and lobby the causes of a particular collection of small business or independent workers. They are always off to dinners and conferences to network.
Plus if you ever go for a business meeting in Spain, it'll often include dinner or drinks afterwards. Rarely is this the case in the UK (and never in the US!). Allows to you to build good relationships with people who you can then ask "favours" from later. Hense the famous "enchufe" that is so important in Spanish business

Spanish businesspeople network all the time, probably more so than we do in the UK, they just dont call it "networking".

You forgot to mention that if you're in a business meeting in Spain that it's completely pointless coming up with a solution within the first 5 minutes of someone mentioning a problem......they just want to talk about the problem for hours and hours and hours and hours, etc.......damn they can talk the hind legs off a donkey over here!
