Re: re registring uk car
Perfectly correct, you shouldn't be able to insure a car NOT registered in Spain with any insurance company here, it's likely to be illegal. My friend is English and he was driving a Spanish plateed car which was hit by a hire car, he said he wouldn't have bothered even to claim if it hadn't been a hire car that his him, the damage wasn't very much.
We'll wait and see - hope this is true.

Re: re registring uk car
Some Update: My husband sent a strongly-worded e-mail to the Gestor (via the translator) telling him that we had been stopped and questioned by the Guardia and the Gestor replied that he had sorted the problem with Trafico out (Yeah right!) and the process should be completed tomorrow or next week.
We'll wait and see - hope this is true.

The strongly worded e-mail obviously worked!
Thanks all for listening to me.

As you say it must have been down to the strongly worded e-mail.
Hope this has lifted your spirits.

Re: re registring uk car
Just in case anyone is still interested.....
Car is now legal!
Has new plates and we have even taken out a new insurance policy with Linea Directa (the old one was just about to expire). 100 euros cheaper than last time.
The gestor only charged us 500 Euros in the end
Thanks all for listening to all my ramblings.

See, it may take some time to get things done here, but it does happen in the end

Re: re registring uk car
Hello it's me again!
I was talking to some newly arrived expats last night and they say that the law is about to change re importing cars and it will no longer be necessary.
Is this correct?

Re: re registring uk car
These stories always crop up from time to time. The law has only just changed to reduce the time residents have to register their UK cars
