Some Update: My husband sent a strongly-worded e-mail to the Gestor (via the translator) telling him that we had been stopped and questioned by the Guardia and the Gestor replied that he had sorted the problem with Trafico out (Yeah right!) and the process should be completed tomorrow or next week.

We'll wait and see - hope this is true.

Excellent news.

As you say it must have been down to the strongly worded e-mail.

Hope this has lifted your spirits.

Thank you Rosemary - I'm just relieved it's over and now we can drive the car back to the UK.

Just in case anyone is still interested.....

Car is now legal!

Has new plates and we have even taken out a new insurance policy with Linea Directa (the old one was just about to expire). 100 euros cheaper than last time.

The gestor only charged us 500 Euros in the end

Thanks all for listening to all my ramblings.

That's great news!

See, it may take some time to get things done here, but it does happen in the end

Hello it's me again!

I was talking to some newly arrived expats last night and they say that the law is about to change re importing cars and it will no longer be necessary.

Is this correct?

Well I guess the answer to that is .... why would it? Why would the Spanish want to legalise loads of unregistered cars running around on their roads. There may be changes about the import tax in time with pressure from the EU, but thats about all I guess.
These stories always crop up from time to time. The law has only just changed to reduce the time residents have to register their UK cars
