Thanks, Rosemary - we intend to do our best! We are on the top floor of a 4 storey building so as long as the roof doesn't leak we should not be flooded even if water gets into the ground floor, and the basement garage could well be flooded. If the lift gets knocked out we can both manage the stairs. We made sure we had enough food in for a few days plus an emergency water supply - if the power goes off we have no water from the taps either because it`s pumped up from the ground floor. We're all electric but after a power cut a few years ago which lasted for hours, we bought a small camping stove and a supply of gas canisters (which we've not had to use so far and are still in a cupboard) so could at least boil water for hot drinks and heat up some scratch meals. I picked up a month's supply of my medication only last Friday so that will be OK. Kindles and mobile phones are fully charged and we have power packs to recharge them if we need to. As I said the other day we cancelled the trip we should have been going on today, so we won't have to go out for anything until the worst weather has passed. I think we've done what we can, the rest is in the lap of the gods.
Afer an initial burst of heavy rain it has now slackened off again.

Hmmm, camping stove, good idea, think that I should get one as I am all electric too. Bit late for this emergency but definitely worth me doing. I was surprised on Monday when my Mercadona order arrived, no missing items even with all of the transportation difficulties. Amazon on the other hand are having huge problems so I believe that their Valencian distribution depots have been badly hit. I had ordered things the day before the devastation and initially they kept on sending out new delivery dates but finally they resorted to sending the items via Correos. I was going to cancel the orders but felt that it seemed a negative action and could come over as aa complaint whereas it would have been done as a helpful gesture.

I'm glad your shopping arrived safely, the delivery services are a boon. It must be a nightmare for them trying to get things to people with the infrastructure so badly affected.

This is from Valencia Diari
The CECOPI has restricted the movement of private vehicles from 6 pm this Wednesday until 6 pm on Thursday in 20 municipalities, including Alaquàs and Torrent, as a preventive measure for the new storm. Except for justified emergency travel.

Fortunately where we are we mostly escape anything other than brief outages - we seem to be on two different 'grids' so one kicks in if the other is out - but it's always a concern.
Camping stoves are never recommended for indoor use - although I do remember we used one way back in the eary 70s in the UK with those low, medium and high risk periods

I do worry about the house burning down and the resultant investigation revealing a camp stove (even if unused) and then being denied insurance.

What we've discovered, though, is that a set up like this works surprisingly well.

Different situation but power cuts are an issue here, both from the tail ends of hurricanes and freezing rain or heavy snow bringing down power lines.

Wow, thanks for that idea. I have tons of candles of all shapes and sizes and a variety of cooking tins so that sort of set up would be easy to achieve. I know that some of the people in the flooded towns lost their electricity so initially lived on cold foods and craved something hot. Later of course there were various other options as things became more organised.

Videos of the floods in Malaga are now on social media. I do not understand why people choose to stand in heavy rain beside flooded rivers watching the fast moving water and do not seem to see the danger that they are putting themselves in.
