Default A question re entering Gibraltar from Spain

HI, Does anyone have recent experience of travelling to Gibraltar for a couple of days by car? I have to attend a family wedding there, driving from Portugal. I probably will have a dog with an EU passport. Getting in should be OK, will there be problems getting out? I have Portuguese residencia so border control should know that I won't be staying in Spain.

Thanks

Your ability to leave Gibraltar via the Spanish frontier is entirely in the hands of Spain.
However hopefully the worst that will happen could be a long delay
Gibraltar does not check people leaving by the frontier.

My (British) partner and I are frequent visitors to Gibraltar but prefer to stay in La Linea - you might want to look into that option.

I have never had any problems at the border but I've got an Irish passport plus I sometimes use my Irish passport card which looks like an EU ID card.

We both have Portuguese residency and my partner has to show their paper residency certificate at the border to avoid getting the dreaded stamp - my Irish passport helps them avoid it too. It's a bit hit and miss and the Spanish authorities don't really understand why Portugal has not issued proper residency cards for those protected by the withdrawal agreement.

I was still British when we applied for Portuguese residency but I never bother using it now if that makes sense.

Travelling with a dog should not be a problem but not many hotels in Gibraltar accept dogs. Before Brexit, we always took our dog (sadly no longer with us) but didn't ever get checked and I certainly haven't heard of anyone having a problem recently.

Hi thanks both. We might be able to take our campervan and stay at the marina in Spain for a couple of nights about 10 minutes from the border. I have found pet friendly apartments to rent for two days, not cheap!!

Another couple of questons as my visit looms - are there any Covid requirements going into Gibraltar from Spain for leaving Gibraltar back into Spain? Also, I notice something about motoring, we have a Portuguese registered car will this be a problem either way. Thanks if anyone knows anything about this and can share it with me.

No Covid requirements except for public passport in Spain.

It has been known for British people with Portuguese residency to have problems proving it when crossing the external border of another country in the Schengen area if they have the paper certificate instead of the yellow Schengen residency card.

Thanks for your reply. Is that the biometric card?
