My name is jean and i live near bolton lancs.

Considering a possible move from Uk to Olivia ,with my daughter and son in law plus one grandchild and my dog. Am looking into the possible pitfalls for myself as a 62 year old who is never short of things to do. Is there any one living in this area with any comments tips etc;

The pros are the usual but you may have some i havent considered.

I dont know about this area but in general if you have a pension then I`d say its nearly all pros! check you medical cover / validation if thats okay then your laughin

Why not tell us the things that you generally enjoy doing and then people can tell you if it is possible in the area.

I do not live in Oliva but visit there and the surroinding area occasionally.

Thank you for reply Rosemary . At the moment i am wrapped up in amateur
dramatics We are affiliated to the united reform church in westhoughton.I am the wardrobe mistress whilst my sister produces. It takes up most of my time.I love to swim, walk ,diy ,read,and dabble in the garden. I have been on my own for 12 years and spent eight of those gettig my son through college and taking care of my grandson whilst my daughter did her degree. It would be the time for new challenges. It may all come to nothing who knows.

Can I ask why Olivia? Have you been there?
It's my wifes area of choice and my 2nd choice.
Don't know if you have done a Goggle search? There's loads of info on the net about it.

The choice is my daughters. She is doing all the research into jobs for her and her hubby and schools for daughter jessica who is six. Im not to sure about my part in this although its an opportunity i wouldn't like to miss. Its a big decision and i need to know the negative side which only becomes clear when you live in a place.

1st of all i would not bring my children out to spain to live .we are waiting till the youngest is 18 then we shall move to spain brought the house parents live there all ready. at the age of you grand children they would find it very difficult to pick up the languege.they would get lost in the spanish schooling unless they went to a private english school this is not cheap.jobs at the moment are very few can they speak spanish if not start lessons .we have for the last 2yrs but have a long way to go.think very hard. yes the standared of vlife is great food cheaper bills cheaper. but dont rush eny thing helen.

I disagree - a six year old child would have less language problems than any adult.

Children are known for being sponges at that age - they accept a language at face value and do not struggle with tenses and other parts of grammar.

In English you say ham and in Spanish you say jamon - fact !
That's how they learn. Being in school and exposed daily to the language would only be a help and not a hinderance. I'm not saying she might not find it all a bit strange at the beginning but if Spain is like Italy then she will just be ready to start Elementary school and will begin with all the other kids ...... and not have to jump into the system at a later age - a system that she wouldn't know about.

Starting at the beginning is a good place for her.

My kids are 8 and 5 and perfectly bilingual.

The cons usually depend on what your attachments to the UK are.

The more you are rooted there (ie strong supporter of football team, embedded culturally, unhappy being away from Brit food, nationalistic and so on.) then the more you are likely to be one of the ones who end up going back to the UK.

Try to learn the language well, and integrate as much as you can into the local way of life, and your chances of a happy life in Spain will be increased.

I bet the kids will be speaking well, far faster than you or I ever could.

I my opinion, if the children are of primary school age or younger, moving here is the best thing you can do for them.

My grand daughter is two and can Speak nearly as much Spanish as English. ;-))

dont agree that the language will be a problem from your 6 year old grand daughter - our son was 6 when we came, he is now fluent in both Castellano and Valenciano, your grand daughter will be taught both

I would say the biggest issue would be work for your daughter and son in law, what will they be doing for work ?

My daughter is a teacher (English lit and Media ,she gained a two one degree ) currently in manchester and my son in law is training in groundsmanship (bowling greens , football pitches etc
