Prices in Iceland!!!

Re: Prices in Iceland!!!
We just cant win. Morrisons in Gibraltar is overpriced too, and with no competition they can charge all they like.. and think about the locals who really have no choice other than to dare to venture out to Spain, sit in a 3 hour queue and get harassed by the guardia civil to get their groceries!
Only downside is we come back with a load of lovely freshly baked food that needs eating within a few days. I've asked Santa for a chest freezer this year as I've been a very good boy.

I'm sorry I just don't understand why you'd do your main shopping in Iceland unless it's a straight difference of taste? Maybe you choose British convenience foods over what's available in the numerous Spanish supermarkets? As an example, I see chickens in Iceland and wonder why buy those when the Spanish ones are infinitely tastier than I've ever had in the UK apart from home-bred..... I choose mainly Spanish stuff with the occasional two or three things from Iceland (and even then I sometimes have to kick myself when I find it in Carrefour & just hadn't looked properly).
Yes i would go to gib but bringing frozen food it be defrosted as we call into
leroy merlin on the way back up the road so bit point less .

Get the feeling that with mention of Morrisons Gib & Iceland maybe I'm running upstream, but my point was WHY buy mostly UK type food at inflated prices when you can almost always get equivalent (sometimes not, but generally as good or better) foods at Spanish supermarkets at non-inflated prices?

and yes, I know you can make from scratch - & do - but they are so handy
I wonder where the poster who was just offered a job running an Iceland Alicante way is? It would be interesting to hear his perspective
now what was his name?

Re: Prices in Iceland!!!
There have been a lot of banks in Iceland with major problems like having to be bailed out by the Icelandic govenment, and it's also always been a verey expensive country to live in....

Re: Prices in Iceland!!!
Don't forget that here in Spain there is IVA added to all food costs, so prices are always going to be somewhat higher that a straight conversion... but, you just have to weigh up whether you want to pay more to buy a known brand, or to buy the Spanish equivalent. If you just compare them against other Brit shops, then they are certainly a lot cheaper, but would never buy frozen veg, fresh veg, frozen chips etc from them as you can buy much cheaper in places like Mercadona.

psst I use Bisto too.. I didn't try to BS that I don't buy any Brit stuff... but you're spot on, my 'known' brands are now almost entirely Spanish

Who in their right mind would buy that! Obviously someone does or they wouldn't stock it!
It will be interesting to see how quickly they reduce their prices to reflect the drop in the value of Sterling.
